Default Ice Cream

Hi, everyone. Has anyone here tried ice cream since surgery?

I bought Pierre's "no sugar added" Neopolitan Slender brand reduced fat ice cream about a month ago, and it's delicious! but each time I've eaten it I've gotten sick (dumping) afterwards. Last night, I felt pains in my pouch. So, you ask, why do I keep trying it? Well, it's good, and it says no sugar added; so, I thought each of the two times before when I got sick that something else must have been to blame. But I can't stay in denial anymore; last night was my last night; I don't want to feel that way again. I hate to give it up but it tastes so good I almost think it has hidden sugar. Anyway, I just read the ingredients and the third ingredient is polydextrose; AND isn't anything that ends in -ose a type of sugar?

Brooke,I can tolerate sugar but ice cream I can't do.I can do a little sherbert but a little.
I can drink milk so it's not a lactose issue just something I can't eat.I used to LOVE ice cream.

Try it,I try everything

Maybe you need to try anothing brand...maybe carbsmart or something. Dunno. My doctor told that ice cream is one of the things we may never be able to tolerate. It might not even have anything to do with sugars. Could be another ingredient all together.

Seems like ice cream is one of those things that most post ops have some kind of reaction to.

Fellow staplers that I have talked to as well as myself find that ice cream just does not sit well.

Reasons we think can incklude the fact that it combines all the components of possible dumping. It is high in sugar, fat and lactose, even the low sugar variety has natural occuring sugar in the milk product.
At any case the most I can tolerate is about 3 table spoon bites.
And you know what that is all I really want any more. Thanks Dr. C.!

Good Luck!

I would imagine it has sugar alcohol. I haven't seen too many post oppers who can tolerate ice cream. I used to love the orange sherbet, but I wouldn't go there because I hate to dump....

I can't get ice cream without sugar here, but I can get frozen yogurt that tastes just like ice cream. Right now I have Cappuccino and it has frozen chocolate chunks in it. I have had a few tablespoons at one time and its been fine. Remember when you read labels and it says no sugar added, does not mean that there is no sugar....my daughter has juice that is 43 grams of sugar, but there is no sugar added.

I think I would be in great danger if I could eat ice cream.

FYI "no sugar added" does not mean no sugar. In fact in the case of fruite scicles I bought just recently that were "no sugar added" they were 20 grams fructose!! Natural or not it's still sugar

Default Sugar alcohol

I went grocery shopping myself for the first time post-op and saw lots of "sugar free" things with SUGAR ALCOHOL. What on earth is sugar alcohol???

I like Bryers Carb Smart when I get a craving. I have had a half gallon in my freezer for about 2 months now. Don't really get ice cream cravings any more. Now I like Tangerines !
