Default Week 6 - A plateau already?

I am just wondering..I am now on week 6 after having RNY surgery on 2-13. The second week, I had lost 15 lbs. and I am now down 30 lbs. The problem is that I didn't lose ANY weight last week, not one lb. Is this normal? I don't hardly eat anything yet already, and I still maintain drinking a lot of liquids because the more solid foods are not agreeing with me yet. I am getting a little nervous because according to my doctor in the past, you should not hit a plateau at all until around 6 months or so as in the first few months, it comes of steadily.

Are you anywhere near your cycle? That could have a little to do with it. Don't panic at this point. I can't honestly say if I remember a plataue at 6 weeks, I had the surgery 2 years ago. But keep doing what you know to do and it will all work out. If you go 3 straight weeks without losing anything, then I'd say your dr should figure out what's going wrong, but just remember your body is going through the biggest, rapid change it's ever been through. A lot will seem wild and a little crazy over the next year.

Yes! I am near my cycle...and I wondered if that had anything to do with it. In fact, I was on birth control when I went into for surgery but they made me stop taking it the first day I was there, so the week of my surgery, my period came a week early because of being off the pill all of a sudden. According to the 28 day cycle, I should have had my period last week, however I am starting to think that because my body got all screwed up, I will have it next week just like normal as if I were still on the pill. My face also breaks out during that time of the month, so that could be a clue...but I guess I just wasn't sure if I would still lose weight even with the cycle issue or if my body is just telling me that it is fighting it because I am retaining water!

Michele,

It could very easily be your cycle. I know for me, before surgery it was nothing to put on 5 lbs before my menses. It could also be that your body is trying to catch up with itself. I haven't had a plateau yet but I sure have read this board often enough to know that it isn't uncommon for it to happen in early post-op. The PA at my doctor's office also told be not to be surprised if it happened. Your body basicly needs to time to catch up with the weight loss. You lose so much right away that your body thinks you are starving so it doesn't give up those lbs as fast. Once your body catches up with what really is going on it will let go of it's tight grasp on those pounds. Just try to be patient.

Michelle, I hit plateaus every two weeks since my surgery. My average weight lost per week is 2lbs. It could be due to how much we need to lose. Im kind of glad Im losing at the speed Im losing cause I don't want to have excess skin. Hopefully losing slow will give me time to work out and tighten my skin.

Also, remember that your body is healing, and it's nothing to stop losing for a week here and there. I know before my cycle I generally put on about 3 pounds and it comes off plus some not long after.

And try as hard as you can to get calories in. Your body is possibly hanging onto every calorie it can cause it thinks you are starving. The nutritionist told us that the thyroid is inside the neck....it has no way of knowing we are still fat. It's just operating based on the info it gets from your body and what you feed it. I know it's hard to eat sometimes at that stage, but add some milk or cheese and things to add some calories. But also, I don't think it's that unordinary to slow down here and there.....so don't panic. I mostly marked my monthly weights, but here is what mine are....month 1-24lbs, 2-20lbs, 3-7lbs, 4-8lbs, 5-9lbs, 6-2lbs. So, I have definitely had a week here and there where nothing moved. Trust me too that you will lose inches and do what I call "shape-shifting"........and you will still see results. Hang in there and be healthy.

Default Michele - Cycle

Don't be surprised if the pill doesn't work for you any longer, remember you now don't absorb all of whatever you take in. I went to the Nuva Ring because the pill was totally useless for me. I LOVED the ring! Also, if your emotions start to get out of whack try acupuncture and these pills - Xiao Yao Wan - check it out on google, it will explain how they work and for what. I could not live without them!

Default Get off the scale!!

I had the same problem only earlyer and was in a complete panic. At three weeks out I was at 18 lbs and everything stopped. I was doing everything right and the scale would not move an inch. So I got off the scale! Two weeks later I was at thirty pounds! Just stay off the scale and stop worrying about it! It can't NOT come off!
