Default I'm home and feeling great so far :o)

I had surgery on Monday and the whole day was a blur. I felt better on Tuesday and came home yesterday. It's kind of weird because most of the pain I felt was in my back.

I also realize that I need counseling. On the way home from the hospital we passed In-N-Out and I was thinking about how much I would LOVE a double double and a lemonade. How could I even be thinking about that with six holes in my stomach?

Did anyone else experience anything like that?

Thanks for your input.

Hey Dave,

I'll definitely be at the next support group meeting. I tried to make the March meeting but my babysitter backed out at the last minute. This time I'm going to make sure I have a backup babysitter in case the original one flakes out on me.

Default Counseling never hurt

Counseling is a good idea, but what you felt is normal. For that first week, all I could think about was all the foods I didn't get to have one last time. It goes away! For me it did. The further along I got and the more food I was able to try, those thoughts diminished over time.

Speaking to someone about your feelings is always a plus in my book. I also had some cravings post-op but that is all they were, I don't think I would have actually eatin any of that stuff I was mentally craving. I am sure once you would have smelt that grease coming off that burger you would have been so disgusted, you would have wipe that craving far from your mind. Welcome to the Losing side

My statement on the surgery is always that they did surgery on your stomach, not your brain. The brain needs just as much help as your body. Talking to somone about it is very important. I had more struggle with the emotional side of the surgery than the physical. It took about 3 weeks before I felt in tune with what went on. Now I feel so much better.

Glad your surgery went well and I wish you the best. I'm next, only 7 or 8 more days for me.

I completely understand how you feel. Maybe I need counseling too, but every fast-food place we passed I was glaring at the people in the drive-thru. Then for the next three days all I did was watch the Food network. It gets better! I'm on my fourth week, and now I'm only resentful sometimes

Welcome back, dreamcatcher. So happy to hear that everything went well. Just remember that you had major surgery and you have to take care of yourself.

Just as everyone else has said, talking to someone is always a good thing to do. Food has been our "best friend" for years and you are grieving the loss of it. Those feelings aren't unusual, they really are perfectly normal. It takes a long time to work through that grief but it's worth the hard work.
