Newbie with a question
Hi everyone,
My name is Stephanie and I am new here. I had my lap gas. bypass on Feb. 10th, so I am in my 5th week. Things are going ok but it will be helpful to have all of you as a resource.
I have a question: What were you eating/what diet, in your 5th week, I think I am getting the diets confused, but maybe not. I am still on the "pureed" stage, but, I can't deal with it, so I am trying to only eat soft foods: cottage cheese, refried beans, mashed potatoes, soup/broth, popsicles, etc., soft meat like broiled fish (and then i just chew it like crazy before i swallow)
Am I on the right track-at what point can i start expanding? I don't want to hurt anything, but it seems like some of the other people on here are expanding thier menus more quickly.
Thanks for your help!!!!
Stephanie

every surgeon has a different set of guidelines. However, pureed and soft foods aren't all that different. I always figured your food is pureed in your mouth if you chew well enough!

First of all welcome to the board, Stephanie. We are happy to have you here!
I am 6 weeks out and from 4-6 weeks I was allowed creamed soups, cottage cheese, SF yogurt, eggs, soft cooked vegetables, SF applesauce, oatmeal, grits, lean meats (starting with thin deli meats), fish, LF cheese, mashed or soft potatoes, and LF milk. That's pretty much the extent of it. I should be adding more after my appointment with the nutritionist tomorrow but I'm not sure what that will be at this point.
It really sounds as if you are doing things right, at least according to what my surgeon specifies.

Every doctor has different guidelines. I am in my 7th week and eating soft foods. I dabble a little with more solid foods, I just chew them well and so far tolerated them. My doc says after 8 weeks solid foods are ok, but I am still a little leary of them. I would definitely stay away from dry meats for a while. I don't plan on heavy meats until at least 4-6 months. Key thing is find out what you doc says and go from there. I agree with Marie, soft foods and puree are very close.
