Another LOSER takes wing!
Well, the big day has come and gone, and I've now been through the rite of passage so many of you have done before me, and so many others are just getting ready to do.
Got home from Pomerado today around 11:30 a.m., and it sure is great to be HOME! AND IT'S GREAT TO POST IN THE P*O*S*T-O*P FORUM !!!!!!!!!
Bridget, Rick, Laine, Bobby, Isaiah, Irela, Kim - THANK YOU for coming to see me in the hospital last evening!!!
Your visit was really a gift - it's a sign of your commitment to supporting the folks that are going through the process after you - once I get catch my breath, I'll try to do as well in supporting the new newbies!
Guess what - I picked up my Lortab liquid as Kelly prescribed, and lo and behold the info sheet with it says it is the same medicine as Vicodin (hydrocodone, which I DO NOT tolerate well at all - causes nausea and weird high-but-not-in-a-good-way...) Soooooo. I'd rather have the (fairly minor) pain. This is my biggest surprise - the pain is WAY LESS than my once-every-coupla-years back spasm pain! So I'm doing great!!!
Losers, look out - here I come!

Congrats
So happy for you Phil, and good to see that you're doing well. You'll always remember this special time in your life. Just follow the doctors order, get plenty of rest, and keep moving. You'll be 100% in no time.

Groooovvyyyy Baaaabbbyyy
Phil,
Welcome to the other side. You've "crossed over" now and we losers are happy to welcome you.
It seems like just it's been years since my surgery because so much has happened since then. It's funny....I remember reading posts from Bridget & the other post-ops that I didn't really understand. Well, I understood them, but couldn't relate to them. Like the post, "Compliments...bitter sweet". It has been so long since people made a "fuss" over me that it was hard to believe that it will ever happen again. Well, for the past few days, I've had so many people just freaking out about my weight loss. I've had several compliments. And Bridget is right....it's hard to learn how to respond to them. So, be prepared as far as this goes. Before you know it, we'll be making a fuss over you!
Anyway, you're a loser now. Lets celebrate!

Phil,
Glad to hear that you're home safely! You are doing amazingly well without pain meds, keep it up! You can do it! If you even thought you liked wonton and egg drop soup, give it a try for a change of pace (don't forget to strain it first).
You'll be a great adviser to all of us because of what you've been through and how you look at things. Plus, the guys need more representation on this board! LOL I hope you'll share your OA experiences with us.
Take care of yourself, take it easy and God speed on your recovery from ("Hell Week"). Just remember, each day gets better and better!

Welcome home Phil
And welcome to the "other side" the much sweeter side of life.. I'm so glad everything went well. If you do feel you need some pain medication, don't hesitate to contact the office and have them write you a script for something that you can tollerate.

Thanks... & I've started my Post-Op Diary & I'm now a "senior member" of the forum!
Thank you, Pam, Gloria, Stacie, Kim & Christina! Your kind and encouraging words are always welcome, and I think this forum has been a great source of inspiration and courage for me to undergo this life-changing surgery.
I am SOOOO glad to be a Post-Op! AFTER I posted this, I discovered that I'm now a "senior member" of the Thinnertimesforum.com site! (It has to do with the number of posts you've written!) One hundred posts - if only I can match that number in pounds lost eventually......
There were some complications during my surgery, so I'm wearing a JP drain as a precaution in case any of the staple/suture sites might leak, but so far, so good. It's a minor pain, but having the stupid thing there will keep me humble and prevent me from overdoing activity, as it's a constant reminder that however good I think I feel, I'm just a few days out of major internal redecorating, and now's a good time to TAKE IT EASY!
I've started my post-op diary on my blog site: you can see it by clicking here. It's WAY too long to post in the forum, besides, I'm not gonna post everything twice...

Yep, used the Magic 8 Ball (this is such a hoot - makes me feel 10 again!) to determine if I should shave - I had a four day growth and was a little hesitant to shave considering that with the blood thinner they gave me, I might bleed a whole lot if I cut myself shaving (I do that on a regular basis, helps on my project of keeping myself humble. Actually, I'm just too cheap to go buy a decent razor....)
So... I asked Magic 8 Ball "Should I Shave?" and it replied "The way I see it, YES" - So I obeyed (and did NOT cut myself).
As for the JP drain, yep they installed it during surgery, due to their concern that there could be leakage of staples/sutures because of the unexpected problem they encountered removing one of the surgical instruments. I'll keep it in probably 'til my post-op appointment next Thursday. It's annoying, but since it's for my own safety, I'm dealing with it. It's not particularly noticeable, and I forget it's there a lot of the time, so I'll live thru the experience, I reckon!
So, Bridget - THANKS again for the fab gift of the Magic 8 Ball, and for coming up to see me at the hospital. After y'all left, one of the nurses asked if that was my family who came by - and I had to say, well, yes! 'Cuz you folks ARE my NEW FAMILY!!!!!
