How much food can you eat?
For all of you who are further out, how much can you/do you eat at a meal?
I am a little concerned because I can eat almost an entire chicken breast along with 1 small slice of zuchinni, the other night I ate 23 shrimp and 3/4 piece of garlic toast for dinner, and I can eat almost a whole pork chop and a handfull of steamed zuchinnis. It seems like a lot to me. Although its not really a bad thing, because these foods are good choices and I am getting in lots of protein. But I eat until I am satisfied and the above amount of food is what it takes to get me there. BTW, I try to finish all my meals within 10-15 minutes so the reason I can eat that much is not because I am eating in a grazing pattern. Oh and I do stay full for several hours afterwards. If I eat less then I am hungry about an hour after.
I guess I am just wanting some input on if this is normal or not?

I am the same way. I too make good choices as a rule, but worry about whether I am eating too much? Tho it's no where near what I used to be able to eat.
Oddly, I can usually eat 'more' if i'm not wearing my jeans. If I'm wearing my jeans I can barely eat a half a cup of anything. Hmmm ...

One year out~
I still don't eat much ...period.But I have always had issues from day one.
I can only eat maybe 5 shrimp.I just had dinner .I had some thin sliced roast beef with a slice of melted swiss on top.That's it.I am stuffed.
I think everyones pouch is different.As long as your choices are good and your losing...consider yourself doing a good job.

im not very far out but think of it this way i used to eat that many shrimp with a steak some potatoe and i would never stop with 3/4 a piece of garlic toast lol ha ha.not to mention the beer or soada i would wash it down with.(beer is the only thing i moarn for i miss it sooooooo much=( i was at red lobster w/ my dad who is not overweight and never has been i at a lobster tail nothing else he ate his plate and all my sides almost and i was thinking to myself good god hes going to explode lol. but i used to eat like that too. sometimes when i think im eating too much i think back to what i used to eat and smile. bye bye

I'm not sure if it's "normal", but I think it's great that you are making the choices that will help you be healthy and keep your weight off. People are right though......before I could eat that many shrimp, some blooming onion with sauce, some fries, a few slices of bread with butter, maybe a bit of salad with ranch, and at least half a dessert. I think you are doing great. Maybe it just serves to remind us that eventually we CAN physically eat enough to gain if we haven't learned some good habits. I read or heard once, and not sure if it was here, that right after the surgery it does 100% of the work, later it does 80% and we do 20%, then it goes to 60/40, and eventually we have to do most of the work using our tool. I know, I didn't really answer the questions......but I think you are doing fantastic and of course you look awesome.

At about 9 months post op, eating 6 oz of food a time is normal. A normal size chic breast or pork chop is 3-5 ounces and a normal slice of zuchinni is about 2 oz, but is mostly made of water like most veggies. I think you are doing just fine with your portions. I too can almost eat a whole chic breast or pork chop. I weigh my meat portions and only put 3-4 ozs on my plate. Then I measure out 1/4-1/2 cup of veggies, like green beans. The main thing is to eat the protein portion of the meal first, then, if you still have room, go for the veggies.

Some days I can eat more than others and some foods I can eat more of than others. I can eat quite a bit of salad and other veggies. I can also eat quite a bit of fish and shrimp. I do not graze and I try to eat a meal in about 20 min or so. How many times a day are you eating? If it's 6 times that may be a bit much, but if it's only 3 then that sounds fairly reasonable. You are making good choices and I really feel that that is the bottom line.

I can eat quite alot compared to ya´ll (im 2½years postop)..  but i´m not worried cause i reached my goal eating like i do.
A normal plate full of food for me is about 10oz (and then one third is veggies one third protein and one third carbohydrates).
If i eat soup i can double that.
If i eat sushi i can eat the miso soup and then 8-10 pieces.
The rule here is that if there is more fat in the meal the less can i eat. Also the speed of eating has a role here.
For example if i have salmon (baked in the oven with nothing but spices) 3.5 ounce, 3oz of rice and 3oz of veggies. I can eat it all. BUT if i add a fat sauce i can only eat half of it. When i eat a meal like this, it takes about 30 minutes before the plate is empty.
I don´t think there is anything to worry about as long as the food is "good" food.. I mean who have become fat eating oatmeal for breakfast? But i have another aspekt in my head and that is the differences in eatinghabits sweden compared to the US. I have been in the states many times and have had a hard time finding food that is healthy (I was there as a tourist though and didn´t have a kitchen). I have not been over there after my GBP but i think it will be very interesting next time if it´ll be hard with the food choices.

Sometimes, I can't eat very much...and other days I can eat a bit more.
Either way, I don't push it and just try to keep "Joey" happy.

You know, I think some of the offerings have to do with what area of the country and some just that you gotta read labels. I find tons and tons of great products out there for post-surgery. I think the big problem is that we have so many HORRIBLE, but great tasting stuff available to us at every turn. They are tempting and convenient. But our healthy choices abound also. I stopped at a gas station (granted it was a big major chain) this morning because I did not have breakfast and was headed to work out. I had my choice of a fruit smoothie in 3 flavors, 2 brands of low sugar choc milk, regular milk, low sugar vanilla, low carb slim fast, low sugar strawberry milk, and some other carb thing. That was just products low enough in sugar and giving protein. But of course all the high fat and high sugar choices with cookie pieces, fudge flavor, and such are right in there too.
