Question Participation in research study for gastric-bypass patients

Dear Patient:

You are being asked to participate in a research study that is investigating the psychological processes associated with successful outcomes following gastric bypass surgery. This study investigates how various psychological factors such as depression and anxiety, predict problem eating behaviors following surgery. If you are a pre-operative gastric bypass patient or you are a five to seven month post-operative gastric bypass patient and live in San Diego or Imperial counties, you qualify to participate in this study. You will be asked to fill out self-report questionnaires that will take approximately 30 minutes to be completed as an emailed attachment. Each time you participate in the research you will receive a gift certificate for a free dessert at a local sugar-free bakery (in San Diego) and you will be able to attend a discussion group addressing psychological issues related to the changes with gastric-bypass surgery (information will be emailed to you after completion of the questionnaires about location for these groups). Furthermore, each time you participate your name will be entered into a drawing for a chance to receive a $100 cash prize. Please email Rochelle Voth at voth@hotmail.com if you are interested in participating in this study.

Question Rochelle?

Hey, everyone, I think this young lady (Rochelle, I believe) is the one who has attended Dr. Callery's Poway support group meetings the last couple of months. She is a psychology intern and is also a post-op WLS patient. Actually, she is downright great! She's led very valuable discussions and even an exercise during the meetings. I wish I could participate in the study, but I'm too far out!

(I hope I'm thinking of the right person!)

Okay, I dont understand this "reward" system. Carbohydrates are usually a triige food for just about all of us. So you get dessert and a lecture.. I got that from my mother my whole life and look where it got me!!!!!!

I understand that you offering good intentions, but its still a wee bit ironic. I would have done it without the bakery reward, if I was within your time frame. But offering someone MO dessert for participation is a slap in the face... just my 2 cents.

Me too! My BF was just telling me I am calmer and LESS dramatic post-surgery. He thinks maybe I get my excess angst and energy out better now by being more active and fidgety, and therefore less....ummmm, verbal.......can't imagine how bad I must have been before? lol
