Default Sleep Apnea postop

Hello all! I was just curious about something. I have sleep apnea and use a C-PAP machine when I sleep. I was just wondering how long after surgery those of you who had sleep apnea were able to get rid of their C-PAP machines. I haven't made a follow up appointment at the sleep clinic yet and wondered if I should be thinking about it.

Presently I am 5 weeks postop and down 44 lbs.

I am very bad and did not use it much after surgery. Mine was set on 14 and it's just too much air and I feel like I can't catch my breath. I need to call and get retested, but I procrastinated it.

I'm a procrastinator too, Marty. *l*

Mine is set at 10 and I really don't have any problems using it but I sure would love to get rid of it some time in the near future.

I'm just glad you mentioned it. I have my 6 month check up soon and I have to have an answer to the question when they ask about that daggone machine. I don't think I need it now, but I know I need to double check....yikes I'm bad.

Did you have to go back for that whole overnight test? That's one reason I've been avoiding it.

I too have not been very faithful about wearing my CPAP since surgery - my setting was 19 and I was afraid of blowing up my new pouch or remnant after surgery - because I usually would wake up bloated from the CPAP before my surgery..... I had a G-tube in my remnant (old stomach) for 6 weeks after surgery to alleviate any pressure build up - but I would have to wear a drain attached to the tube when I would go to bed - needless to say I did that like 2 times.

My wife says I do not snore anymore and it doesnt seem like I stop breathing, but I am sure I should get it checked. I really dont miss wearing it though

My pulmonologist (sp?) said my sleep apnea was severe enough that he doubted any amount of weight loss would totally get rid of it - so I guess I am in denial and avoiding the truth.....

Okay guys, we are supposed to hide the SCALE after surgery, NOT the CPAP! (Well unless we are told to by our doctor)

Well, it looks like I should just break down and make an appointment. I just don't want to go through another sleep study if there isn't a good chance they will let me hide the CPAP for good.

I didn't use my machine before surgery... I certainly didn't use it after! I just know that I sleep better now, and I don't snore! Try and get the overnight test you do yourself at home. You just hook yourself up and sleep in your own bed. But definately get checked if you need to!

I won't say I never used it before surgery, but not like I was supposed to......so I feel the same way. I would love to have them officially tell me I don't need it though. I looked for the phone number and realized I don't even have it because it was all done through the bariatric center.......so I called their general line and got a bunch of options and finally an unanswered phone. I guess I'll try and look it up online and if no luck they can just bite me when I admit to no CPAP use.
