Unhappy This Surgery Sucks!

I think that I am the only one who has had this surgery and thinks it sucks. If I had to do it over again I wouldn't. I can't really eat, I have yet to hit 50 grams of protein. Milk products make me sick, I've spent a ton of money trying to find a supplement that I can tolerate, I'm thirsty. I sip at my water bottle all day long and I barely get 40 oz of water a day. I'm tired but I force myself to work out every day, I lucky to get 350 calories a day and to top it all off this week, my 3rd week out I didn't lose any weight. I've only lost 16lbs since my surgery. I've done this before presurgery so no I don't feel a sense of accomplishment just frustration. I want my money back!

Any suggestions on what I can do to start getting some results?

If you are really only getting 350 calories a day, you are starving and your body is conserving. You will lose weight that way but slowly. You need to get in some more calories, like double what you are getting now. Maybe try some Ensure or Boost, I know that is a bad word for you right now but you will get it down and it is calorie rich.

Just my 2 cents.

Kristi,
You're so normal! Don't forget, you only had surgery 3 weeks ago. It will get better, I swear! Sugar free popsicles count for fluids, you can also do sf jello/pudding. Your body is healing, and it's like you've gone back to being a baby. You have to relearn what your new pouch will and won't tolerate. Give yourself a little more time! You'll make it.

Default You've got to give it some time...

If it's only been 3 weeks than you're doing fine. I really doubt I get 50mg of protein and I'm 10 months out. Don't worry so much about how much you get in right now...just keep yourself hydrated. Sip the water/tea/whatever all day long.

Trust me - it will get better, but your body has been through a MAJOR surgery and it's trying to heal. I didn't eat any solid food for 2 months and during that time I maybe had one small box protein drink a day (20mg) if I could get it down.

You'll be fine, just try not to get discouraged and don't feel like you have to get a certain amount of protein in right now - do the best you can and be sure to take your vitamins and drink your water.

good luck.

Its an emotional roller coaster after surgery - your emotions take a ride due to trauma, hormonal issues and healing.

You are only a few weeks out my dear, don't be so hard on yourself.

As far as calories, get good foods in and as much liquid as you want. I know the numbers, but don't plan on focusing on them for at least 2 months. I am a week behind you and eating under 500 calories a day....I know I need more, but I am trying to focus on my life, not food.

Food ran my life for too many years. Do you have a nutritionist that you can see or your doctor - maybe they can make suggestions for you.

I agree...the popsicles are the way to go...be lucky that you can buy them...I have to travel over an hour to get mine!

Use an ice cube tray if you have one. Otherwise, use a plastic glass with a straw poked in it. I'd send the Del Monte popsicles, but I suspect they'd arrive melted and refrozen, ewww!
