Its 4 weeks tomorrow and although I don't regret the surgery....I am totally turned off food and would rather not eat...but I force myselt to and most times it comes up anyway. I just stood in the kitchen tonight, opened all the cupboards and fridge and closed them all. Good thing the hubby was there to console me as I cried. I finally gave in and had turkey soup...not 5 minutes later, it all came back up. I have to wonder sometimes why I try.....but there is a light at the end of the tunnel and I am not alone.

I'm sorry that you are feeling bad...but SO glad that I am not alone. This week (I had surgery on the 1st) has been hell for me. I have cried a zillion times...can't imagine how other people are actually exercising when I can barely function...the food I can tolerate taste-wise gives me horrible diarreha & gas...I'm constantly thirsty but to drink to much hurts...and I'd KILL someone for some chip dip and a cigarette (not together naturally *LOL*) I'm trying to hang in there but it doesn't help much that I can't swallow my anti-depressants worth a damn.

It does get better than this, right?

Thumbs up Relax, you're normal.

The first few weeks after surgery were tough for me, too. But, I can happily say that things are going pretty good now that I'm (almost) six months post-op.

I do still have days where I don't get enough water or protein (As WLS 'alumni', that may be something we'll have to deal with on occasion for the rest of our lives) but fortunately it's nowhere near like it was the first few weeks after surgery.

Like others have said, things will get better... it just takes time. Hang in there, Kristi!

Yes, it does get better. Early on, I was afraid that I was gonna shrivel up from lack of water and food... But, like I said in my earlier post, it does get better with time.

BTW, have you talked to your physician about taking your anti-depressants in powder form (perhaps crushing them)? Maybe you could then mix them with the food you can tolerate.

Be sure to talk with your physician before trying this, though. I have no idea if there would be safety issues in altering your medication in this fashion.

Default Thanks

Thank you everyone for the support and advice. I am starting to feel much better. Still not doing protien shakes but I do ok with the protien bars.

Amazingly enough, one day I woke up and I was able to gulp water and Propel. It was amazing, so now I'm not thirsty anymore. Hurray! Anyway, I'm feeling much better. I don't seem to be losing as rapidly as everyone else but oh well, I'm following the rules...I guess this is just going to be a slower process for me.

Anyway, thanks again everyone.

Hang in there sweetie,
The first month or 2 are hard. The adjustment can be hard but try to look at the long term goal, even one week goal worked for me. I too had problems with protein drinks and milk, well I won't even go there. I use a protein shake that has egg whites and it seems to do well for me. Your body is learning and it can ber VERY frustrating at time.
As someone else said the emotional roller coaster is just that. You have your ups and downs. Always know you have support here and use it as much as you need to.

well I'm sorry to hear that your not happy with your surgery but as we all know there is no gurantee and everyone adjust differently, you are losing, maybe not as fast as you'd like, but from what I hear if you lose slowly your more likly to keep that weight off, talk to the Dr. and go to the support groups for help
