Default post op day 2

So I've only posted a couple of time but here's my update anyways. I feel like you are the people I will come to most. I had surgery Friday am and am feeling pretty good. Each day getting out of bed/chairs feel much better. The right side of my abdomen hurts way more than my left but i guess that normal because thats where most of the work was done. I'm tollerating water and clear liquids well i was afraid at first becasue of some of the things i've seen posted. forgive me but im goona lose all the punctuation the computer desk is not very comfortable and i just want to get back to the couch. im drinking alot of water and im not sure if its too much but i feel soooo dry. anyways thanks for all your help on my journey to my new life and for any further advise i need. you all are a bunch of really great people and i am fortunate to have found this forum.....

thanks niki

Congrats on your surgery. It gets better!!! And I don't think youcan get too much water!! I wish I could get in enough!! I still cannot tolerate straight water, mine must be flavored somehow.

Congrats!!!! It will get much easier day by day. I had horrible pain on my right side as there was some bleeding at a port site and my surgeon had to put extra stiches in to stop it from bleeding. 5 days post op I felt a pop there and all of the pain went away. I smiled and my life got better with that stich pulling through!!! Keep posting and let us know how it goes.

Niki,

Congrats on crossing over. You are definitely one of the lucky ones. I had a hard time keeping water down, it was just too hard on my stomach. You really can't consume too much water, especially if you are sipping like you are supposed to be. Don't worry, you are doing great. Good luck on your recovery. We hope to see more of you around here.

Red face

A new thing i just found out is that I can't tolerate warm water. It has to be ice cold and then I can drink it by the gallons. I can't wait untill the thicker liquids stage. i feel like I;m not getting enough nutritionally. The broth and the jello have like 20 calories added togeather. Its crazy. thanks everyone for the congrats. Another questions I had is does the pain on the left side go away a little more once the JP drain gets taken out??????? I pulled out hte wires for the on Q pump yesterday am and it already felt so much better. Bu t getting out of bed feels like my left sideis ripping open. I am a nurse but have never delt with GB patients so I'm assuming this is from the amount of work they did on this side. The pain is getting better each day but when does it go all the way away.

I felt tons better once they took that awful, gross JP drain out. I had it for 10 days and it sucked. Once it came out it made sleeping, moving, bathing, and finding stuff to wear so much better.

Good luck.

My JP drain was taken out the day I left the hospital and I felt like a new woman, it made getting around so much better and my hole has closed up already and it has been only a week. It will get better don't worry.

Default Post-op period

I remember those days. It's been three weeks and yet it still feels like just yesterday; really it does. I was able to drink water, but mostly because of my sore throat from all that they crammed down my mouth. I loved broth (loved, past tense). If surgery was last Friday, you should be able to try cream soup; something made with water instead of milk. Sugar free popcicles are also really good. The pain should improve soon, healing takes time. Don't overdo it.
