Default Anyone else's tummy...

happier empty? Mine hurts the first few bites of something. Most of the time it settles down, but sometimes it doesn't.

And I think I had my first dumping last night and I am not sure on what. We went to the mall to a bbq place. I had a baked potatoe.. a SMALL bit of butter and sour cream and a couple of bites of hubbies no sauce brisket. I ate maybe 3 bites of each and then my tummy hurt. I threw it up in the mall bathroom ( not fun) but also had diarhea and was just feeling awful.. like a truck ran me over for the rest of the night. I just went to bed when I got home and slept it off.

The meat didn't have a strong taste and as I said it had no sauce, and it was very lean. The potato was just a potato. Any ideas? I don't to do that again EVER.

Well Gina you are a month and 10 days out, so I would consider that still early post-op. Your pouch is still very sensitive as it is still going through a healing process. I am sure it would take much to make you sick right now. It could have been a combination of the things you ate, not just one pacific food item. I am sure any butter right about now might cause that dumping feeling. That feeling of being ran over by a truck is coming from the vomiting and diarrhea. Your spilling potassium when you vomit and have diarrhea. I would up my intake of plenty of extra fluids if you can. We all have to learn what foods are right and wrong for our new pouches, it is a learning experience. We have all come across something that has made us sick. I hope you are feeling better.

Eventhough the brisket had no sauce, they may still put a rub seasoning on it which sometimes includes brown sugar. You may never know. I am glad you are feeling better.

remmember most docs say no beef for a while. The reason is our pouches are not always able to handle it. It is hard to break down. that could be it or like otehrs said. The butter, the sauce, or jsut the spices. At one month out I was still eating one and two item meals. In fact I'm almost at 5 months and I still do that most of the time. it's easier on me and I'm able to eat more. I never eat more then three itmes in one sitting and the third is maybe a bite or two of it only.

Yeah, I am just 4 weeks out.....I feel so much better when I am not eating or haven't eaten! (I guess that is not good). We're gonna have to get over that or we will starve to death! Wish I could get more protein and water down. I gotta do it!

Red face Seasoning

I agree with Dyann that it might have been the rub or seasoning on the meat. Just because it doesn't have sauce poured over it,doesn't mean it has no barbecue flavoring on it! Poor baby! Live and learn.

I'm 7 months out and I still dump on baked potatoes. Bummer. Used to love them!

It took me four months to be able to eat, and keep it down or not dump on it.
I think some of us are more sensitive than others. Remember you are healing. Nothing worse than being away from home, and being sick like that.
It will get better.. take it slow. Suzy
