Default Question about hunger

My hunger returned sometime in maybe the 2nd or 3rd month......seemingly earlier than many experience. Does anyone think there is a connection between hunger and pouch size? I have a friend who is only a week further out than me. She can eat more, but does not get a physical hunger. I eat til full, but less than she eats, then in about 2 hours I am legitimately hungry. I wondered if I am filling easier, but emptying sooner because of pouch size. Also, I do not drink with my food and she does........seems she would get hungry first. I can and do usually put it off with liquids, but was just wondering if there is a reason why or whether it's just an individual body thing?

I think everyone is totally different. I still have yet to feel physically hungry. I get head hunger and I want something just because I want it. I try and drink when I get like that. I think the reason she is able to eat more at a meal is because she is drinking with her meals. She is turning the food to soup and it is funneling out her pouch. But as far as physical hunger everyone is different. I would not worry about it.

Like Laura said everyone is different and I think it all depends on the surgeon. Some may make the pouch smaller or larger and some may bypass more of the intestine than others. I know that Dr. C bypasses the same amount of intestine on everyone regardless of weight and also creates the same size pouch for everyone. This was a topic of discussion at a meeting sometime last year.

I have the same problem you described. I eat till Im full. About 2\3 oz. I wait about 1 hour after till I drink water. 1 hours later my stomach is grumbling. Huuh. I drink water or eat a piece of fruit.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. I follow the time lines for eating and drinking, and am pretty good about the content of my meals, and eat until I am completely full........an hour or two and the grumblies are back! The only thing that might help is that I still drink cocoa with supplement and dry milk instead of breakfast in the morning. Maybe that affects it, but you'd think the protein in the drink would make it ok.......probably about 20-25 grams. I could switch to eating in the morning, but worry that I won't get my drinks in then. It helps me start my day with a big dent already in my liquids and proteins which I struggled with before. I also rely more on hot drinks which are harder to get in while I'm out doing errands and such. Do you eat breakfast Velma? Maybe I'll have to change that and try and deal with it.

Default Hey Marty!

Marty,
I've noticed that you and I started out almost the same weight (me--232lbs) and you had your surgery 7 weeks before me, and our weight loss has followed a very similar curve. I have been stalled for 6 weeks now, and it feels like I will never lose another pound. I am right around 58 lbs, and am wearing 12-14's, which is great, but I, like you, want to hit century. I feel like I will never lose another pound. It's frustrating, isn't it?

It is frustrating...........even though I know we are both doing great. I guess when my body gave up those first 2 months of 44 lbs total it wants to slow down and level out now. I guess the good thing is that I am getting better at buying clearanced clothes and guessing what size I will wear at what season.........slightly tight for spring, tight, but not ridiculously far away for summer, etc. Someday we'll be on here celebrating our century marks!!

That's an interesting theory that might be onto something. I'll have to watch closer, but I know she uses higher fat dressings, more butter, and richer sauces generally. But she never feels hungry anyhow, but that might explain the quickness of mine. Also, last night I kinda ate a few more GS cookies than I wanted to (ones with not too bad sugar in them, little cafe ones). I planned to eat about 5 which is a serving, and ate maybe 8-9. I stayed full longer than usual and wondered why. It didn't make sense to me because they are carbs, but they are also fat and I ate them right at the end with dinner which had my protein and veggies. Hmmmm, I'd hate to up my fat, but maybe need to so I don't make up for it by eating unhealthy fats later?!

Default Hungry or Empty??

I really have not experienced physical hunger yet, but I do get just an empty feeling from time to time. Easier to ignore than hunger but I usually eat a little something.

I don't know how people can drink when they eat. It is impossible for me too. Upchuck city if I do. Now I can have a couple nabs with some coffee or something. But if it is a meal, the liquid takes up too much space too quickly and gets displaced by the food, then you know what happens.
