Default Change in teeth

Have any of you post op peeps out there noticed a change in your teeth since having WLS?

For instance I have 2 cavities! Another tooth "broke" I had no idea.... and Im wondering with the rapid weightloss and rapid calcium depletion if any of you are experiencing the same?

Default Yes ma'am

My teeth have always been awful.. thanks to my mother... because I must have gotten her teeth.. LOL And most of mine are root canaled anyway, but since WLS, I've had two teeth pulled. One of my root canals came out post and all. Someone that I know mentioned they had a theory, and it was my calcium, blah blah.. so anyway I think it's affected my teeth. Suzy

I am having the same issue, it has to be the calcium. I had 2 fillings done in October and the dentist told me last week that I need 3 more!

My periodontist says they are way better..go figure. I had gum graphting due to my teeth not sitting properly on the gumline. My dentist who I no longer go to says, in the long run wls will catch up with me and my calcium levels will not be maintained..basically, she was so pessimistic with me and stated that I was wrong to have gbs. I basically told her to stuff it. My calcium levels are the only thing that are actually higher now and doing well.

My doc is big on calcium suppliments for this reason. He said that once you lose calcium from your bones and teeth you can never replace it so it's important to take pills so your body has enough to live off of.

Default dentist's opinion

I saw my dentist last month, and I had a new cavity, but the big thing my dentist said is that she has several post op wls patients, and she has noticed that all of us have much less saliva--dry mouths. I definitely have it and she prescribed a special toothpaste and mouthwash for me that is supposed to protect the enamel. She told me that she had never read anything about it, but with her having so many wls patients with the same symptoms, she had to take notice. BTW, she said that just sleeping overnight with inadequate moisture in the mouth can get a cavity started. She said that as weak as my teeth are, I need to use the stuff every day, or my teeth would just rot away. Lovely image, I must say......Size 6, but no teeth......that would be me....

Default Teeth, what teeth?

I lost mine years ago - trying to eat a steering wheel after being hit.

When I take them out, I get this uncontrollable urge to play the banjo on the front porch, put my car up on blocks and ask people if they can "squeel like a pig!"
