No Appetite
 Dear Friends,
My surgery was 11/14/05 & I have only lost 48 pounds to date. My problem is I can barely tolerate meat. I have tried everything from chicken, fish, ground round, lamb & tuna. I do okay w/cheese sticks & a few nuts each day & I drink my protein each morning and night (I LOVE my protein!), but food is, for the most part, very unappealing.
I apologize for not visiting often, I started nursing school on 9 Jan & work at the hospital. Thanks again for listening and for your neverending wisdom!
Blessings,
Tami "O"

only 48 lbs? Are you kidding me?? Two months out that's great, and it took me a while to tolerate meat. Try not to weigh, and just measure, because you will find the times you don't lose poundage, you are losing inches. Suzy

48 pounds is great!!! Don't worry about eating meat. Maybe protein shakes will be ok for now. I am sure you will be able to eat meat later. When you try meat, do you pulverize it before you swallow it? Have you tried chewing on crisp bacon or beef jerkey? When I eat steak, I have to really chew, chew, chew. I lived on shrimp in the early stages...yummy.

Maybe try the high protein, low carb yogurt. I ate a lot of that and maybe cottage cheese? I ate cottage cheese with mozarella and marinara sauce melted on top. It was pretend lasagna.

Thanks Dale & Suzy! So long as protein shakes are okay for now, I think I'll stick w/them & bites of protein elsewhere. It isn't the meat itsself making me ill, it's the thought of having to put it in my mouth & chew (ugh!). I've tried the bumpy cheese, aka cottage cheese, but my mouth truly does not like that. I've tried the shrimp & scallops, same thing, my mouth doesn't like it invading the space. I use the champion pro whey (chocolate...yummy) and it has a ton of nutrients, vitamins & minerals in it.
Thanks again guys...Suzy, you sound like a hoot...wish you were closer! & Dale, I LOVE your smiley face w/the hearts...my kinda emocon!
Blessings,
Tami "O"

can't tolerate meat!!!
I am in the same boat as you. My surgery for gastric bypass was Dec 21, 2005. I have lost 45 pounds thus far. Very excited! My family doctor didn't recognize me!!!!
After my surgery I could tolerate tuna and chicken for about a week, but now I can't tolerate any kind of meat or milk products. I am living on soup and jello again. I can drink water or flavored water but can't tolerate any other kind of drinks. Someone please Help!!!

Congrats on the great weight loss!!!! I had tolerance issues with almost everything for the first 6 months. My doctor explained to me that I had to retrain my body to accept food again. Meat was the absolute worst. Anything that was dense made me nauseous and usually came back up. What I found out was that the opening to my pouch was too narrow and was causing food to hang up and cause the nausea. I went in for a few very simple scope procedures and it made a huge difference! I am now 15 months post op and tolerate nearly everything.

How about tofu stir fry? Mix cut up extra firm tofu with a frozen bag of stir fry vegetables and add teriyaki sauce, hoisin sauce and some garlic/black bean sauce....and voila!!
