Default Lost 85 lbs. with no energy increase

Hey folks,
I have lost 85 lbs. and I'm very pleased with the way I look and with all the "head" type things that go along with losing that much weight. My problem is that I'm still tired a lot. It seems logical that someone who doesn't have to carry around an extra person would have more energy. Why don't I? I teach 5th grade and I still have two elemetary age children at home. Plus I'm 48. I haven't been able to make myself go excercise. I have severe arthritis in my knees, and they are some better but they still hurt a lot. Is it because I don't exercise that I'm tired all the time? My doctor said that my body is basically starving so it makes sense that I don't have tons of energy. I'm six months out. What do you think? Lay it on me.

Are you taking your vitamins? Eating your protein? If you haven't yet, get lab work done to see if everything is normal.

I agree - get your labs done - many time the lethargy is because you are deficient in something, and if they run you rlabs, they would tell, and can correct it. You might also try walking at lunch or in the evening with the kids - excercise also produces more enery...Good luck, and let us know how it goes

Well there could be a couple of reason why you don't have any energy and I would agree with your doctor but are you getting all your vitamins and water in? If you are taking all your vitamins and drinking all your water, the vitamins you are taking are they the right ones for you? Are you taking daily walks? Even if for 10 minutes a day, that could improve your energy level as well. I hope you find some soultion, it is great to have lost so much weight but not getting to enjoy it just isn't fair. It is like having a new car you can't drive. Congrats on the 85 pounds gone forever. Keep up the good work.

I am having a similar experience. I think one of the keys to this surgery is taking things as they come and not putting false expectations on what should or will happen.

If your doctor thinks what you are experiencing is normal, I would just try to flow with it.

My doctor told me to expect my energy level to be lower than normal for the first 6 months.

Age may also have something to do with it. It takes time for your body to catch up and until you can start eating enough to fuel it. You need a mix of protein, fruits, and veggies, with some complex carbs and fats. If you can't get it in the natural form, then you'll need to supplement. A big culprit is low iron or B12.
