What are signs of a Stricture
Please help. I am miserable today. I had a protein shake this morning around 6:30, and at about 9:00AM I had 3 bites of scrambled egg and a piece of bacon. I have been miserable ever since. Like it won't pass. I have been throwing up, but not real throw up. It is slimy and clear. Sorry to be so graphic. Oh yeah, and I have the hiccups really bad. Any thoughts

reflux
The mucus you are having is common, but still awful. I had it constantly for about 3 - 4 weeks. Maybe some of what you ate , esp. bacon, wasn't chewed well enough and kind of stuck. It is amazing to me that a 3 opz pouch can contain as much of that slime as I was vomiting up for a while. Go back slowly to solid food, and chew, chew, chew. I would avoid hard foods and stick to softer stuff like eggs with cheese rather than bacon. Even ham or sausage would be better than bacon, I think.

The signs of a stricture are an increasing intollerance for foods you once did well with. It progresses from intollerance for solids then when it gets bad, for liquids as well. The idea is to get to it before it gets to bad so you can be dilated to a good size. That is easier to do before you totally close down.

I am happy to post that I am doing much better. Shortly after I posted, I was about to call the Dr. office and low and behold I threw up. A real throw up, not the burping, slimy throw up. I immediately felt better. I even went back to work. Right now I am taking it super easy and having chicken noodle soup with mostly broth. Thanks for the replies.

I'm glad you're doing better, strictures are a total pain, it's a good thing you called your doctor right away, when I developed the stricture I had I waited 2 weeks until I told the doctor what was going on !! I didn't dehydrate because I drank lots of fluids, it takes a while to make the difference between a stricture, or just some food that didn't agree with you.

Sorry to hear about your bad feeling. I say stay away from the eggs also for a moment. Went through that nausea feeling and eggs was one of the things I couldn't eat for a while (still don't too much). Just came back up. Yep and bacon try turkey bacon, that definitely works better for me now. I remember I use to love bacon on a burger, but wouldn't touch it now.
I'd have to say 12 weeks Post op for me, has taught me that 1 you really have to listen to your body and 2 yep eating is NOT what it use to be.
Hang in there, sounds corny when you are feeling so bad, but you really do learn and adjust.

Today I tried bacon for the first time since surgery=for me, it's a no go! I got the "golf ball stuck in my tummy" feeling-and I won't be trying it again for awhile. Many people on this board really like bacon, but I've learned-just because it's ok for some-doesn't mean it's ok for me. Take note of what your pouch likes and doesn't like. Anyway, glad your feeling better!
