Default Exercise: Gym, Home, or Walk?

Alright fellow post-ops, I gotta know:

What do you do for exercise?

I'm looking at a new lil' gym in town here that's pretty affordable ($35/mo) and some have suggested an exercise bike at home instead (no payments). Others just walk -- but I know there's no toning of the skin/muscles then.

So chime in and share your habits (even if they aren't very regular) for exercise.

Thanks in advance.

Default Gym

I take a toning class at the gym. Plus I do some cardio and free weights. I have been slacking for awhile, but I'm getting back on track!

We go to the gym a couple times a week...do the cardio and work the muscles. Other times we just walk.

I go to the gym in a Doctor's building and I am currently only walking. I do intend to get into water aerobics soon and weights.

I go to the gym because it makes up a routine I do it every morning. If I have to leave the house and go to the gym I AM GOING TO DO IT. If I walk outside I put it off during the day til it is too late.

Just my two cents.

A balanced exercise program must include cardio plus resistance training. But the most important thing is it must be something you enjoy. I work out at the gym, both cardio and weights. But I also ride my road bike. I'm training for the Tour de Palm Springs right now. I love to ride, but this time of year I can only do it on the weekends because I get home after dark. So I'm at the gum during the week.

Walk, ride, swim, cardio machines, they are all good for the heart and for stamina. But you must do some kind of resistance training. Resistance training strengthens the skeletal system. More muscle burns more calories!

Too funny - I'm exactly the opposite. We got a treadmill, an exercise bike, and free weights for home, because if I have to get up, get dressed, leave the house, go somewhere, either shower there or go back home and shower, before I even go to work, I AM NOT GOING TO DO IT. This way, I throw yesterday's sweats on and get busy... and I'm up to eight miles on the bike, a mile and a half on the treadmill, swapping out days. Might not sound like much, but I've added a few minutes to my exercise each week...wanted to take it slow and make habits that last a lifetime.

I need to start with the free weights pretty soon, and I'll break it up by doing step aerobics on opposite days, most likely.

I'm not post-op, but back in another century when I lost a ton of weight, I used to do Pilates and Yoga. It really made a big difference, and it tones like nothing I've seen before. You can get a DVD and do it at home - Windsor Pilates - or anything Pilates or Yoga. You'll be amazed at how hard it is, how relaxing it is, and how "bendy" you get.

I am going to do water aerobics for a while and then do the gym. But I think I am going to invest in these kick ass weights made by bowflex. You should see the commercial. Two weight where you dial a weight onto them.
There are times where I am home and I don't feel like getting in the car, that lets me do it here. Other times I want to get out. A little of both is great if you can swing it. I don't think walking alone is the best way. It is better than nothing but a mix of cardio and strength is the way to go.

Wow you are my exercise hero. All of my home equipment like that just became very expensive laundry holders. I also have two little ones that when I get someone to watch them, I love getting out alone for a change.

Red face Walked today

Well, I do plan on getting to the gym and hitting both the cardio and weight stuff, but today I took my first real walk and interestingly, my upper arms, scapular area ached like the devil.

Otherwise, the walk was refreshing, wonderful, and made me feel really good it being my 6th day post-op!
