PCP Resets Goal Weight
I just came from my PCP's office. He has over-ruled goal weight of 124 and reset it to 140 lbs.
He said my body is clearly close to goal and being that my boobs (Exact word) are not shrinking my goal weight needs to be adjusts to reflect the large bust.
So here is his break down of goal.
Goal weight = 120 lbs
excess skin = 5 lbs
extra bone mass = 5 lbs
boobs = 10 lbs (size 36DD)
..........................................140 lbs
Watcha' think? Is he right?

Hey Renee,
How tall are you? Dr. Suh will be doing my surgery in the next few months and I don't want him to be setting my goal to low!!!

I am 5' 2" tall
Dr Suh does not set a goal weight for you. He allows your body to do that. He claims you will stop losing on your own at 1 yr post op.
When I seen Dr. Suh on the 20th of Dec he said I could expect to lose about 10 lbs over the next 3 months and another 5 to 10 over the last remaining three months....20 lbs over the next 6 months.
I was hoping to lose 28 lbs and reaching goal of 124lbs.

First off, you have done an awesome job at using this tool. Congrats to you on your success! I think your Dr sounds realistic............and I admit I chuckled about the boob weight. Honestly, noone has given me a goal weight, but I was adding 5 lbs for my skin also.......not sure about bone mass, but guess I would have a bit of that. I made my own goal and will ask my PCP and my bariatric surgeon what they think at my next appointments just to see if I am on the right track. I know my pcp will be realistic as yours is being. Now, as to what you do.......I say just do what you know to do....eat for your pouch, keep active, drink your fluids........and your body will land where it should be.

I think that sounds fairly reasonable. Personally, I would add about 8 lbs for loose skin. I just had 5 1/4 lbs taken off my tummy and Lord knows these bat wings gotta weigh a few lbs! I have a tiny bit of loose skin at the very top of the front inside of my thighs so that wouldn't account for much, but the wings weigh me down for sure! Also, I know you are suppose to lose the majority of the weight in the first 6 mo and my doc was disappointed with my 6 mo progress just a little and told me I'd really have to work to lose the last of it. It came off in another month and a half and I just kept on doing the protein first thing. So you never know where you are gonna end up!

You have the final say
Hi Peckdale,
I read an article once that said that anyone who had been overweight should not expect to get to that "perfect" goal. That it is unreasonable. Now, I do not think the article addressed wls, but rather a non-surgical approach. I mentioned to someone that a pharmacist friend of mine said that I was at a good weight and that he was rather suprised to hear I was still considered "overweight". This friend asked about my skin weight stating that when I have that removed, I should then weight less....
All this said, it is my thought that it depends on how YOU feel that should dictate your level of weight loss. How do you feel? Are you comfortable?
Regardless, you have done a phenomenal job. Keep up the good work.

If the PCP isn't giving you the weight you want perhaps you should try ecstasy or heroin, I have heard those help.

I believe 140 would be a perfect weight also.
We have all heard that our weight will bounce up after a period and some of us will regain any where from 50 to 75 % of the weight lost.
I am hoping to get 20 lbs below for this reason. Once I bounce up I'll be at a perfect weight.
**Al Roker has admitted he has regainned 30% of the weight he lost.
