A couple of questions
Anyone else kinda have to "wake your pouch up in the morning". By this I mean drink some water before drinking the protein shake or eating anything? By pouch actually hurts a little bit with the first water of the day then it is fine.
The other thing does anyone else feel a bit funky after they drink their shake. It is not dumping and I don't feel odd after drinking milk so it isn't the milk sugars. I just feel kinda yucky for a couple of hours after I drink it and I wondered if anyone else does.

Gina;
My doc told me to drink something hot first thing every morning. I guess early on post-op theres mucus and whatnot that builds-up during the night. I'm almost 6 months post-op and every morning I have a cup of coffee before I do anything else.
As far as the protein shakes they "hurt" my pouch. I don't think its dumping, but, the shakes make the 'ol pouch hurt. That being said I have 2 huge tubs of protein powder out in the garage. I try it every once and awhile, but, so far it still hurts my pouch.

Protein shakes are ok-but I'm sure having a problem with meat--I've got that awful lump in my tummy now-I had tilapia for dinner-didn't even get my small piece down--for those of you who can eat fish-it's only 98 calories for 21 grams of protein-soft and flaky. But oh my my my tummy hurts-feels like I swallowed a basketball.

I can hardly drink water at all, but especially not first thing in the morning. It feels like someone kicked me in my stomach. I drink warm beverages with protein in the morning and it hits me ok. I know what you mean about the drinks........and I think it's the heaviness of the protein because sometimes I feel that way with meat or a protein bar. The feeling does not come as often as I get further out though. I used to just wait it out, but it does feel icky.

AM beverage
I have always liked juice first thing in the morning, so I mix unflavored protein powder into diluted "lite" cranberry juice. I get some water and rehydration and 20 gr of protein quite painlessly.

I drink coffee (1-2 cups) in the am. If I try to drink water or iced tea it comes right back up. i have no idea why. I can't eat until at least 10am and that is if I get up at 7am. I usually get up around 9am (I work 2nd shift) and I eat my first meal at 2pm, a snack at 6pm, dinner at 8:30, and again at 1:30am. it works with my schedule.
Are you sure the milk is not the cause of your icky feeling? I had a similiar situation come up when I was early out everyday after I ate string cheese for an afternoon snack. it got progressively worse and started happenning with other milk products. I became lactose intolerant over the course of a few weeks. Maybe try mixing your protein with crystal light or something for a few days and see if that doesn't help.

Thank you all for the advice. I eat string cheese fine so I am not sure that it is lactose that is the issue. And Marty you are right it is a heavy feeling, so far that is the only thing that makes me feel that way. Perhaps it will get better with time. All in all if that is all I have to gripe about then I got lucky. Oh, and I will try some hot tea first in the morning to see if that helps.

I used to feel VERY yucky for about 2 hours after drinking my shakes. I was making them with milk, which milk alone doesn't bother me. I changed to water and now I love to drink my shakes and I feel just fine. I use GNC's brand of Isopure. I buy a container of banana and one of strawberry, then I mix them to make strawberry banana... very yummy!
