Default Is anyone else "hungry" all the time???

I am having the darndest time with not ever feeling satisfied with my eating. I am TRULY trying to figure out if it's emotional hunger, or physical, but MAN, I FEEL hungry MOST of the time.

I read on here "since we don't feel HUNGER, how do we know if we're full?" Good question, if that were MY case. I never DON'T feel hungry! I try, try, try, to do just my few ounces of something ... cottage cheese, refried beans, string cheese, soup... but I feel like they didn't shrink my stomach during my surgery. I know that is not true ... LOL ... and I'm NOT trying to complain.

I'm really looking to see if there's anyone with MY side of the problem around here ... constant hunger, or WANTING to eat continually. I wish to heavens that I would have one day where I didn't THINK about eating constantly, like I did before surgery.

I don't dump ... I've been eating Dove dark chocolates... you know, I was just going to have ONE each day, as a treat... well, today it was like 7 throughout the day. No problems for me. Ruffles potato chips, and french onion dip? No problem for me! I know I shouldn't even be TRYING these things, that the surgery is JUST A TOOL ... but I'm still well over 300lbs, and have 200 more to go.......

PLEASE, someone tell me how you conquered this problem? Or, that my appetite WILL go away???? I don't want to plateau at 300 because I have no will power.

Thanks for listening again. I continue to learn so much from everyone here, and I am SOOOOOOOO grateful that I can feel more "normal" here with you all!!!

Sue your struggle with food seems to be a lot for you to control on your own. Have you seeked counseling yet? I remember you were having some problems when you were about 2 weeks out. Sweety you are going to have to seek professional help to get through this. If you don't do something now you will get stuck in the 300s. Maybe there is something your doctor can prescribe to decrease your feeling of hunger or refer you to someone who can do a proper assesment about what is going on with you emotionally. Sue do it before the honeymoon is over. You know you have a problem take it by the horns and do something to improve it. I know this process is an emotional one and just adds to some of the stressors you are already dealing with in life but know if you work this tool it will work for you. I hope you everything works out for you, I would love to see you make your goal.

Sue, I have the same problem. But I don't give in. It's been real difficult for me, so I try to distract myself by getting on this forum. This site is a great distraction!!! Another reason I don't give in is because everytime I eat Im nauseated. That helps. Hee Hee Keep yourself busy and get professional help. I don't get help because I'm a MSW and studied behavior modification in school. Not very easy when it's you that needs the help. Remember modify your behavior. KEEP BUSY!!!

I'm sorry things are so hard for you right now in making food choices. I do feel hungry a lot, but I also get full as I should. I notice that if I drink the amount I should in between and do my protein, that I fare pretty well. Once I forego the beverages and indulge in carbs I have trouble getting the day back where it needs to be. I don't know how to answer that you don't get full, because if I overate I would feel sick and the food would come back. So, the tool does limit my amount at a sitting. But I know many do not feel hunger, and it took about 2 months or so for mine to kick in, but it did. I hope you can get things worked out. I know it must be scary and frustrating.

Default Hungry All the Time

Dear Sue
I know how you feel. I want to eat all the time. I do not really be hungry it is just that i am use to feeding my emotions with food. Now that i have had wls, i can not just eat when i am sad, happy or lonely even though that urge is still there. I some time go ahead and eat but with my pouch i am easily filled up, not satified but full and i can not eat until at least 2 to 3 hours later. The pouch does help me in that aspect but i do need and wand food all the time there is a craving that i have. It is not helping me that my weight is at a plateau and i am losing so slowly. I have only lose 50 pounds in 4 months and a week. I will pick up my exercise this week and cut back on my eating and only eat 3 meals and 2 snacks a day. I hope that you are able to control the urge to eat. Linda

Sue your still in the soft food stage. Things change a lot when you get into eating more solid food. Cottage cheese is not as filling as say 1/2 a turkey burger. You will totally know when your full after eating that. Also you should not be taking more then 20 minutes to eat.

Default I recommend

I understand your feelings of hunger. One of the best hunger squelchers is protein. Make yourself eat protein first and indulge in that before carbs, or sugary foods. If you do you will eventually find your not as hungry. Suzy

I agree with Suzy - My doctors mantra is that this is only a tool and we are only as successful as how we work that tool. Eat your proteins very first..then veggies, then fruits and carbs. The protein will fill you up.

Another thing you might want to watch out for that you didn't mention is that you could be dehydrated. Sometimes your body thinks its hungry (head hunger), and you might even get a tummy growl....but of you have water and rehydrate yourself it can go away. For now since you are hitting the plateau, drink a glass of water when you think you'[re hungry and if the hunger persists, eat some protein...

Good luck!

Two things that come to mind is: 1) are you drinking lots of water and 2) are you getting in at least 60grams of protein a day? If not, then make sure that you are doing this. From what I have read, if you eat junk food and too many poor carbs, that you can get hungry and crave foods? Remember too that this is the tool and your honeymoon period. Talk to a nutritionist and get back on track soon. Take care and let us know how it is going.

I am very surprised that you can even eat this stuff so soon out. You have lost alot of weight already in such a short time.

Talking Lol....

I know its nothing to laugh about but being this far out I have to say this.....over eat just once and you will know the true feeling of full....its horrible and it hits you like a few minutes after you have stopped eating you dont feel it while you are eating this is how you know your limit look at your food and say ok and if you get the weird feeling and you pick up the fork again and your brain asks do you really want that extra bite then put it back down and dont eat it if you eat it almost guaranteed you will be sick after just that last bite, cant explain it it just happens....its weird. I think people who have never dumped or say they dont ever feel full....need to go ahead and try it just once...I think its very important to feel it at least once so you know what the feeling is and what made you do it eat something really sweet or take those couple of extra bites after your brain tells you not too. Eat alot really fast and drink while you are eating all of these have very different effects on how they make you feel and I believe that you should over do it just once so you know what the feeling is and what the signs will be of course do this while you are at home never do it while you are out this is testing your body so you can feel the effects and then you will truly understand whats going on with your body....eating too much sugar or eating too much will make you feel hot possibly sweaty and you will want to fall asleep for a few minutes sometimes you will just fall asleep and not even realize it. Eating to much and too fast will make your stomach incredibly uncomfortable and you will want to puke if you decided and can actually puke you will feel better but sometimes nothing comes up I take the suffering rather then puking to remind myself "you idiot you ate too much" butthere have been occasions where I have had to puke and couldnt help it. but I say try it once let to know what all the signs mean and what too much sugar feels like not a pleasant feeling but you will never forget the feeling. Of course though you are still early out when you start on solids thats when you should try it not now you the the food and yes I agree your honeymoon period is gracious and you lose no matter what so dont stress about not feeling full your still learning your body so be patient this is something you will continually work on even at 2 years out believe it or not but no worries my dear it will all come together.
