Default help, does it get better?

ny surgery was on tuesday and i felt great inthe hospital and I cam home yesterday. last night all hell broke loose. I started cramping so bad and I have horrible diarrhea and I was vomiting and I thought I was going to die. Oh yeah and I started my period which I have not had for a year. I am so misserable. the vomiting has stopped today but the cramping and diarrhea is going strong when does that stop? and what horrible thing to have to look forward to? I was feeling so great until last night. Please tell me is this cramping and diarrhea normal? I need your help!

did something you eat cause this problem? this does not really sound "normal". you should put a call into your surgeon. you don't want to get dehydrated.

Hi Cathy, First off Welcome home. I am 3 weeks out and I can remember coming home and I felt good but I also did have diarrhea and got my period the next day I was home as well, which I hadn't had in over a year. My surgeon told me it was normal and within days I was fine. I did not have the vomitting so I am unsure about that. But I did have cramping and the diarrhea which I had alot of gas when I came home. Keep on sippin those liquids....Are you eating or drinking anything? Cause I am not sure about the vomitting stage but everyone is different. But after a few days I did feel pretty good, but I still have good and bad days today at 3 1/2 weeks out.

Good Luck!

Default Sounds awful

Did your surgeon send you home with a list of things to look out for? I know it is Friday, but if you feel like this is different than what you were told to expect, you might call your surgeon and let him know. He or she may give you some guidelines to help you know if this will pass and is normal, or if there is a problem.

I hope this passes quickly for you! Poor thing!

My surgeon would whip my butt if I didn't call with those symptoms. It may be just your intestines waking up after surgery and getting used to the new plumbing, but with the vomiting...dehydration is a real concern with it coming out of both ends. Call them and let us know how you are!!!!

Default thanks

I am feeling better tonight. I am very sore. The diarrhea has calmed down some how long does this last? I just want to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel. time frame. The vomiting was only last night I have kept down broth, jello, ice tea, and ice chips today. I feel full and I forget to get forcing the water down. I have to watch that with the diarrhea. Thanks you so much for your support. I didn't get a litst of things to watch for when I went home. Can someone share that with me?

Thanks,
cathysdream

Hi Cathy,

I probably had the diarrhea for at least 3 days maybe even the first week. But my surgeon told me that was normal as all we are drinking and eating is liquid. He also told me that I would be full of gas from the surgery itself. There is light at the end of the tunnel. It does get better, I promise. I use to forget to get my water in too as I never felt hungry or anything. I just kept a cup with me at all times and kept sipping and sipping. It sounds like to me your doing great, I had a hard time eating jello or broth or anything. I lived on SF popsicles for weeks as I never felt hungry. But everyone here reassured me that it would get better, I wasn't sure in the beginning I believed them but now almost 4 weeks out it is getting much better. I just started eating and I still do get diarrhea every once in again if I don't all day and drink alot of liquids, but I guess that is to be expected.

Keep us posted...Sip, Sip and walk alot..Walking will help with gas pain and such!
