Dietician
Hi Friends!
My dietician at the hospital (I'm a cardiac monitor tech vs nursing student) "caught" me eating one melba round the other day and almost had a cow! She said no carbs ever ever ever for the rest of my life. I asked her if I was just supposed to eat a slab of meat for every meal for the rest of my life and she said basically yes. Is this for real? I'm only taking in about 10 carbs a day if that. Please advise. Thank you!

No way! She's nuts! Would you like my gastric bypass ebook? Its lengthy and has tons of info.
You need carbs to be healthy, you cannot omit them forever. And you need protein as well. opinions differ but if you chose to get your protein from animals, (vs vegean ways) you have to. No way around it. She is a crazy person. Did you ask her how she would propose you taking in your 60 grams of protein a day?

Tell her to read up on it
She's full of horse puckey... Every single authority I've been able to find does say protein first, but then add in fruit/veggies, then carbs.

Sounds loony to me too! Your brain cannot function properly without carbs. Call the doc's office and bounce it off them. We shouldn't overload on them, but you've got to have some.

Melba toast is perfect to have. You are fine....don't listen to anyone who doesn't know what they are talking about. I eat crackers all of the time...bread, pasta, you name it.

Protein first, but your do need carbs. And we all know that some carbs are better than others. Melba toast is great. The dietician needs to read a book on WLS and about a well balanced diet. Sounds like you are doing just fine, but talk with your doc, he knows whats best for you.

Having your dietician at the same hospital is like having big brother watching except she is wrong for all the reasons listed above. I hope you don't feel like you need to hide from her in the cafeteria in the future!!

I would love a copy of your ebook...where do I go? I have tried to find a book that covers the RNY & life afterwards but too many to choose from. Thanks so very much for your encouragement...it really helps! My surgeon is moving the 15th of this month so I won't have any way to ask ??'s. Thanks so much to all of you...you're the greatest!
Blessings,
Tami

Carbs are required by our bodies. It is the carbs that give us energy. Our bodies break them down to sugar and that is how we move. Granted it is important to eat a lot of protein but you must also have the carbs and veggies in modest amounts. An all meat diet could cause you colon cancer, ulcers, and many other gastrointestinal disorders.
