Please Help---worried About Wife
My wife had the surgery 4 weeks ago. She had it open. She has been doing great, but tonight for some odd reason she has gotten real real sick. She threw up everything she ate, and is still nauseous.
She says she has the worst stomach ache she has ever had, and I am worried that something might be wrong inside. Is there a way to tell? She had the surgery done 4 hours from our home, so taking her to the doctor that did it in an emergency isnt easy. Could someone please tell me how to help her, what to do??? What should I ask her?
What information would help determine whats wrong?
Thanks in advance

Call Your Doc!!
If you are that worried about her CALL THE DOCTOR. I throw up from time to time. I get sick because I eat to fast or to much. Please just call your doc to be safe. Tell him whats wrong and he will tell you the best thing to do.....
Good luck and keep up posted!

I started to earlier and got yelled at, LOL. Did you ever throw up and it just cause so much pain that it knocked you down for the night?
She has been having pains from doing too much, but was better today and yesterday. She admitted she ate a little too much salad.

Call your doctor. It could be as simple as dunping, but could be worse, and your soctor would be able to tell you. Your wife's health is worth getting yelled at, right?! Keep us posted...you guys will be in my prayers...

The elevated temp is my concern. If her temp is still up, bug the doctors some more. The vomiting and such is part of the normal learning curve of changing eating habits. At 4 weeks, she shouldn't be eating salads. Raw veggies will cause cramping and can irritate the stomach. The stomach can't digest the fibers in raw veggies this early post-op. The general consenses is that raw veggies is held off until about 3-4 months.

no salad! I have a lot of trouble with salad dressings causing me to dump. However, dumping won't cause a temp. I felt so cold the first month after surgery, my hubby would warm blankets up in the dryer for me and I'd have layers of clothes on and still my teeth would be chattering. I don't know if everybody goes through that or not. Her doc should have an emergency number-call it and see what they have to say. Let us know how she is doing!

Is there an Emergency room near where you live? It doesn't have to be the place she had surgery for her to seek treatment, mainly if she has an elevated temp. If need be, the hospital could transfer her if further care needs to take place. I hope all turns out well.

Please keep us posted on how she is doing. I would call the DR.. I had a stomach virus about 8 weeks out and it was like no other bug I had before, my pouch was crambed up and having spasams I did have a low grade fever. I was going to call 911 the pain was so bad but it did get better when I threw up. I would also caution against raw veggies this early out. I didn't have my first salad until I was 3 months out and it was only a few bites.

Thank you all. She is doing better. The raw veggies is what did it, although I think the fever was something else entirely. Its gone, and a lot of her pain is gone now too!!!!
She has thrown up a few times again today, but she is holding stuff down alright now. She had soup earlier, and was fine.
Thank you again for all the help!!! This board has taught me a lot about what more I can do to help her.
