Dumping syndrome questions
I am an on and off user of the Forum but every once in a while I find something that is helpful to me. Hopefully I can be some help to someone someday.
I am 7 weeks out now and as of last week I have lost 54 pounds since my surgery. I have only thrown up 3 times in the last 7 weeks and I haven't had any dumping syndrome feelings or I just can't recognize them. I know about the standard feelings that they say will come. But will it be a strong discomfort or are they mildy uncomfortable like you wont recognize it??

Dumping??????
This is my entire existence!
Throwing up is part of dumping. Sometimes it's just a strong beating of the heart. Sometimes you get lethargic. At worst, you throw up and fall asleep for a while. It's different for everyone.

For me, dumping is getting really tired out of nowhere and my pulse shoots up. Sometimes my stomach feels wierd. I have never thrown up from dumping, I've only thrown up from eating too much or not chewing well enough. Sadly though, it takes a lot of sugar for me to dump.

here's a brief article about it http://healthlink.mcw.edu/article/930606151.html
The severity depends on what type of food, how much of it at once, how fast you push the food through, and how far post op you are.

I have all the symptoms. rapid heartbeat, cold sweats, sleepiness, vomiting, diarhea. Not all at once. Some time I just feel like crud, sometimes I just get sleepy, it depends!

At 9 weeks post op, I experienced my first case of 'late dumping' late last night (at that time, I managed to suffer every stinking one of the symptoms you described in your post, Amber). I have to say, it was one of the worst things I've ever gone through in my life. Afterwards, I went to bed and slept for about 14 hours straight! Ack!

I'm not sure if the episodes I had were dumping or not. I've had a few episodes with vomiting and a few just getting extremely tired after carbs.....I always say they put me in a coma because it is a different kind of sleepy. I'm almost like drugged. But for me, I get a weird feeling in my tummy sometimes that feels like it has it's own rapid pulse. Very strange!

Extreme fatigue comes from the intense spike, then drop in your blood sugar as insulin rushes in to control the levels and put it back in balance.
