Weight Loss Stopped After Birth Control.
Ok so by day 12 I was down 27 lbs. Then I started Birth Control and I gained 5 lbs! I thought ok I can deal with this, it can't last long. Well week two still no loss. Week three still the same. Well two days ago I stopped taking the pill and what do you know I lose 4 lbs. Has this happened to anyone else?
I have followed the program to the T. 500-1000 cal a day, always under 20 grams of fat and 50 or maore grams of protein.

Were you on birth control prior to your WLS? And is this pills or patches or something else? Hoping I don't have anything to fear when I re-start mine!

no this was the first time I had been on birth control. I was on the pill. I have never been on any type of birth control before. This was my first attempt.

Are you sure it's not just a plateau or maybe some fluid retention caused by the pill? I have no idea but it's a thougth. I'm on a hormone patch (hysterectomy) and only started it after wls (long story) and haven't noticed any problems with it effecting my weight or anything. Maybe you should ask your ob/gyn about retaining fluid.

Well, most people gain some weight at first when starting the pill. Make sure to let your gyno know! Usually they do a 3-month checkup on you and change it then if there are problems like breakthrough bleeding/spotting or elevated blood pressure but talk to him/her, and see what they say! For the last year I have been dealing with functional ovarian cysts and breakthrough bleeding so I was on 3 or 4 different types, but in the last 10 years I've probably been on 7 or 8 different kinds. Good luck!!
Also- My gyno has the same surname as your WLS Dr. and I think they are in the same medical building at Alvarado- are they husband and wife maybe? If you don't already, you should go to her because she is awesome and has never made me feel bad about being obese.

I don't know what it was. All I know is that the day I started I gained weight. I have been up and down 5-10 lbs from that day on.....I think that is weird after having gastric bypass. I shouldn't be gaining weight! I follow what I am supposed to do and now that I am off it I am starting to lose again. I mean really after having gastric bypass could I really be eating enough to gain weight. I doubt it. Plus like I said I am eating very healthy. I watch everything that goes in my mouth and don't go over 1000 cal a day.

Check with your gyno. I have been on birth control for years, but for some reason after my surgery about 4 months, It no longer worked correctly and I had my period for 2 months, and ended up in the hospital. Not to scare you, but your body changes so quickly it is hard for the pills to work sometimes, I am ok now, I am finally on a pill that works, and I am losing still. Just hang in there and give it sometime.

Its hormones and water weight...would you rather have 5 measly extra pounds or wind up pregnant? Lots of gals become fertile myrtle... BE careful!

I am honestly up and down ALL THE TIME. I lose 4 then gain 5 then lose 1 then gain 2 then lose 3 then gain 1... it's reliculous! Hard to do, but try to stay off the scales... no more than once every couple of weeks.

What a small small world we live in, my mother used to work for Dr. Wittgrove (the weight loss surgeon), and Dr. Wittgrove the OB/GYN delivered my daughter. They are married and my sister used to baby sit for them.
Back to the subject. Most people do gain a little weight when starting birth control. I would definately discuss this with both your surgeon and your gyno and see if they can put you on a lower hormone dose perhaps.
