Lisa - It's so nice to hear that I'm not crazy and that someone else feels the same way. I had Lap RNY on 11/3 and am so frustrated because I can't find a protein source that doesn't give me diarreah. I feel GREAT otherwise. My surgeon is amazed at my progress and I've lost 20+ pounds in the 2 weeks since surgery. I really need some advice on what to do for protein. I think I have become lactose intolerant and that's why the whey protein, even mixed with Lactaid, is upsetting my digestive tract. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I pray everyday that it will get better and I know I am, just not fast enough for my taste. Today as I type this letter I actually feel a little less of the uncomfortableness from the stutures.
The one thing I never really asked my doctor about is alcohol. Is it okay to drink a glass of wine, beer or a shot of alcohol?
Again thanks guys I know you all don't know me but I'm usually an upbeat person this is something totally new for me.

Hey Dee......welcome to the board. Keep in mind that a little moodiness and depression is common after surgery. I think it's a combination of the emotions of the changes in your life and body, along with the fact that shrinking fat cells release lots of estrogen. Luckily I've only had some moodiness. It sounds like you're doing great. If you keep feeling much pain or discomfort I'd check with your doc. Hang in there.......and keep hanging out with us!

I was lactose intolerant prior to surgery, but it all hinged on amounts--I could eat small amounts of any dairy product with no problem. Once I had the surgery ANY amount of yogurt or regular milk gives me gas and/or diarrhea. Once I cut those out, I did better.
On the protein side, every source of supplemental protein gags me right out. So I have to get my protein in my food. Bluntly, I know I didn't get my protein in the first few weeks, but now that I'm on solids, I'm getting pretty good at "eating my protein first," which you'll hear a lot around here. It's all SO individual that all we can do is tell you what worked for us, and you have to try bits and pieces until you find out what will work for you.

Dee,
Our doctor said no alcohol ever. I don't know if that's realistic for you, but because we tend to have addictive personalities, a lot of post-op people start drinking too much.

Thanks Lisa! I appreciate the feedback. I will try to be more patient with myself. I think I'm so caught up in getting my protein everyday I've let that preoccupy all my focus. I look forward to chatting with you guys and learning from those that have gone before. Thanks.

Right there with you
I know just how you feel. Keep this in mind when you go to the retirement party this weekend. Parties are hard because they seem to center around food, at least for me. I went to a birthday party this weekend (for an adult) and the whole thing was based around the food table. So I got a small paper plate and placed one marinated mushroom on it. It took me 15 minutes to eat it ( I was trying to make it last) and then I had to wait 30 minutes before I could sip my water. Needless to say I made myself miserable watching everyone else. I don't feel particullarly bad for myself (it was after all me that got me into this prediciment) but at that particular moment, I felt pretty crappy. Anyway, the long and the short of what I am trying to say is get yourself mentally prepared for things like that. I did not and have been sort of "off" since then. How are your afternoon energy levels? Mine have been kind of pathetic for the last week. Anyone else experiencing late afternoon lethargy?
