Default Stricture complications

Hi all - well i think i last posted last thursday that i was dehydrated and the Dr thought i had eatten something that irritated my new connection well i ended up back back in the hospital on sat because nothing would stay down i was throwing up all everytime i drank so i was afraid of dehydration again -

well sat afternoon we drove back 3 hours to the hopsital, they did a CT scan and saw that i was completely healed - i mean completely sealed off my new connection had completely healed and was sealed SHUT they were shocked considering i was only 2 1/2 weeks out

On sunday they did the scope and opened it up with a balloon (9 different balloons to be exact, ending with a balloon that was a 12) then on tuesday they went back in and saw it was a little closed up again and so they had to go back down 2 balloons starting with a 10 balloon to reopen it and they went one balloon bigger this time hopeing it will stay open...(ending with a balloon that wass 13.5) the good news was it had nothing to do with what i ate i just over healed....

so i was there from sat to wed in bed getting fluids via IV and had to get potassium - let me tell you potassium HURTS going in thru the IV!!! and i gained 8 lbs - but talk about dissappointing i have not eatten in a week and i gained weight they assured me it would come off in a day or two & already 4 lbs came off last night as i am getting around more then i could in the hospital....

today i was able to get in 1/4 cup of a protein shake i use to be able to get in 1/2 cup so i don't know if this is just swelling or not the Dr said i will have to pay attention closely for the next week as after that things should open up a little more .... if they dont i may need another scope...but overall i am happy to be home....and i am going shopping today just to get out and walk a little

So ggod to hear from, sad that you have been going thru hell and nobody knew about it. yes potassium hurts like hell, just imagine how it feels when the IV fails and its all backed up into your arm.. I had burn marks!

Im glad you home honey! Big giant super hugs to ya!

thank you so much bridget - they had to move my IV 3 times because of the IV backing up when they were just giving me fluids then the burning from potassium they ended up on the top of my forearm in a vein i didnt see and was so tired of being poked i was crying and telling they to just leave it i would deal with it because it got to a point i felt being poked again wasnt worth it because it hurt like hell because i became so sensitive it all sucked...glad to be home

I am sorry to hear about this, but glad you are home. You know that your body probably needed you to gain the 8 pounds...it is afterall water weight. It will come off like they said. I gain every time I have surgery because they totally pump me with fluids....when you lose Potassium it is so dangerous and when you get re-hydrated it always feels like they plump your body up. I remember when I had liposuction and I lost so much Potassium...It took forever to get me back up. I looked so puffy in the face that my husband did not recognize me...it was so scary.

Take it easy...so glad to hear from you.

I hope you get really really well and you will be I also developed a stricture and it was really bad, but you'll get better. I've had 5 endoscopies so far to open up the hole and I still have one left. hang in there!!! the throwing up will stop.

thank you for all your sweet comments because this sucks! as anyone with a stricture or the loss of potassium knows it sucks & potassium hurts!
the first time i went in they did the drink test and said it was trickling out and that it was just swollen but about 30 hours later i was back in & the CT scan showed it was completely closed they scoped me sun the 6th & tues the 8th and i still get ill sometimes i think i have not eatten enough but mostly i think my pouch is really sensitive and it wasnt the first week out so now whats up???

ValenP~
over what time did you have your 5 scopes? do you still get ill is that why you have to have another?

well I had 4 EGDs over a 6 week period like every 2 weeks, because my stricture was a rough one and every time it would narrow 3 mm then I had the 5th one over a month time and the 6th EGD I have left is also due next month. I didn't get sick, the first time I had it narrowed everything went back to normal, the doc said it would be better to narrow little by little so it wouldn't close up easily.
