Yikes - I can eat more!
I just started to notice over the past few days that I can eat more now! Of course, what I'm eating is almost exclusively protein and fruit/veggies, but it's a little disconcerting, you know? It does depend on the consistency (this morning, I could only handle 1 hard boiled egg and two small slices of melon), but I can eat a whole chicken breast now and it's a little freaky.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone around the 4-month post-op is experiencing the same thing. I'm just a little sad that I'm actually going to have to start working harder at this - I know I'll be fine, but that seems like a short honeymoon!

Eating More
Barbara,
I am probably the worst person to reply to this as I still can eat very very little. However, I have to have another Upper GI and an endoscopy next month due to the fact that Dr. C thinks I may have a stricture. I can't eat solid food still but I am doing ok with that. I went from eating a whole yoplait yogurt to about a half sometimes only a quarter of one. Don't know what is going on but we'll figure it out.. But I do think it is normal. Don't panic, just stick to the rules.. and water load if you have to.
Good luck girlfriend you are doing fabulous!!!

Christina,
What is a stricture and what is the prognosis? Does it require another surgery? God forbid!

Stricture
Kim,
No worries, the surgery isn't really a surgery.. I have to have an endoscopy I will have some type of sedation.. Thank God for Stuart who will be there with me.
The stricture if I have one is some type of tightening between either the pouch and the esophagus or the pouch and the small intestine. We're thinking the latter. I possibly also have an ulcer but everything will work out.. no regrets!!! Stuart takes very good care of me so I'll be ok.

Yikes! Is right
Last night I had a taco, and I ate almost the whole thing, head one last bite to go but decided I shouldnt even attempt it! I was freaking out! Usually I can only eat about 1/2 to 3/4 of one... Im talking the fat, taco shop shredded beef taco... I was tripping, but its funny because I think the last time I really "ate" at a taco shop (prior to WLS) I had the beef taco, cheese enchilada, beans, rice, chips and salsa and a pepsi to boot... oh yeah and dont forget the hot carrots... aye carumba! So I guess in perspective, I shouldnt be totally freaked out!
Barb, I bet if you looked at how much you ate that day vs. what you normally would have eaten in one sitting and its probably still not much....

eating more....scarey as hell =(
HI to all again.......=)
I thought this thread may apply to me, because I can eat more, but I would never be able to eat a taco, or any carb for that matter. I made ravioli for my daughter, just normal sized cheese ones, I think 9 is a serving. I ate one and it SANK to my stomach and stayed for hours.......the pasta just does not do anything for me. I live on veggies and protien, occasional fruit. No bread or rice.....yuck. I still can only eat 1/2 or more often 1/3 of a chic breast, maybe 2 oz of steak, very little if any pork, no ground beef (gag), tuna is okay and shrimp is great. I eat all meals with a veg, like a salad or sliced tomatoe, zuc, that kind of stuff. I eat 3 times a day w/ a snack of fat free cheese rolled up w/fat free ham and mustard.....yummy. 10 grams of protein and only 60 calories and its tasty. I guess I am on the small end of portions...was 6 months out yesterday and have lost close to 90 pounds I think...size 10/12 and a very happy woman. I feel like I am in my 20's again ...it is truely a miracle. But I am hungry more often, or maybe I am just more hungry when I'm hungry, but I guess now that I wrote it down, I am not really eating any more than I was a couple of months ago. I don't think I get near to the 500 calorie mark and the weight is creeeeeeping off these last 3 weeks or so. Anyone know what our calorie intake is reduced by because of surgery??? I seem to remember 20% but could easily be wrong. Let me know what you think......I worry about the food really bad now...obsesivly sometimes, I have a major fear of gaining weight. Talk to me people..........

It's not all that bad...
After I posted this original thread, I realized that I can eat more when all of the stars are aligned, ya know? If what I'm eating is free from any chemicals or sugars, moist enough to not get stuck, etc. I have yet to repeat the whole chicken breast, and it's not like I'm dying to do it again!
Anyway, yes, I eat SUBSTANTIALLY less than what I used to, and I'm so grateful for that. I get "hungry" sometimes, but it's usually only that I notice my blood sugar or my energy getting low. I'm still very sensitive to fats and sugars - both make me instantly ill, so I just stay away from them. I had a half can of tuna with a quarter of an avocado last night for dinner, and I couldn't get more than one bite of the avocado. I think it just has too much fat for me.
As for the questions on calories - I started tracking mine about 5 weeks after surgery. I initially discovered that I was only getting about 500 calories a day, and that is not enough for me. I average about 850 now, and I feel great. I need every last one of those calories to maintain my much more active lifestyle, and I've started increasing my carb consumption (fruit only) because I started jogging a few weeks ago. I think that I used to average about 3000 calories a day before the surgery - so 850 is tremendous progress!

Egat....I recall being able to eat a whole batch of nachos at the movies some 3 weeks post-op. Now, I can hardly have about 5 chips with cheese. I have no clue how I was able to eat more then than now. As you say, it all depends on the stellar alignment

Oh nachos... yum!
I ate the taco no problem ... but nachos, I have tried them twice and wound up praying to the porcelain god on both occasions... the last time was at the Padres game... embarassing! So no more for me... ever!

I'm about 7 weeks post op and I just had about 1.5 oz of Tuna salad for lunch. I had half a protien bar for breakfast and I will probably have some fruit (pineapple) for dinner. Then I will sleep for like 15 hours.
Taco's.... Yea that made me drool a bit. I think I can smell taco's now... Thoes shredded beef taco's from Albertoes or Hilbertoes or Anybertoes...
As I type this the 1.5 ox of Tuna salad might of been too much..... Now I'm really tired and will probably, nope, defenatly need a nap here at work.
Good night all.
