I'm so sorry you got your feelings hurt, Sweetie! You are doing great and we all know it! Kids are cruel! I'm glad you sent a note to the teacher. Hopefully, she will handle it in an appropriate way. Don't let that comment burst your bubble!!! I'm proud of you!!!!

Laura,

When I read your first post that you had hit the 200s I felt like crying for you (happy tears!!) because that is such an incredible accomplishment. Then my heart broke when you shared your story. I don't know you personally, but the fact that you were at your son's school, taking brownies to celebrate his birthday is what it is all about! I agree with the others that the teacher can and should set the boundaries for the classroom. As far as your success, keep on trucking!! No one can take that away and I am sure your kidlets are so very proud. I hope I look 19 after my surgery.

Keep up the good work. You are beautiful!!

Kelly

Gal I know how you feel I have two teenagers daughters and worry all the time about what people would say. My children are adopted and I don't want their lives to be anymore difficult then they have already been. I haven't had that problem, and now that I am down in my weight, I took my oldest to school and one of the boys told my daughter your mom is hot!!!!! (keep in mind I am young, only 27). It made me feel so good, because when I was in highschool they never said that!!!!!!!
You will have the same coming to you, and you are so pretty. I think it is a good idea what some of the others have said. You should go in and talk to the kids, it will leave an impression on them that maybe their parents have not, this could help save another person from having to go through what you did.

The saying goes kids are cruel! Well the difference between kids and adults is...out of the mouth the heart speaks. kIDS JUST SAY! Adults on the other gossip about it. I would rather speak to an honest child than a back stabbing adult anyday. Being over weight is hard enough and as we all know the emotional side of it is just as bad. But for today sweety know in your heart that you did something about it and something is working for you. You are a very beautiful lady and thank your lucky stars that when in the end of this wonderful journey how you are going to look and feel.God Bless!

Please don't let this get you down. You come a long way, and have every right to be proud of yourself. Me, I would write a letter telling the teacher what happened and suggest an "intervention" of sorts talking about obese people.

Or, you could have talked to the kid at their level "I may be fat, but your ugly and I can diet." (sorry, couldn't help that one!

In all seriousness, I would take some sort of action that will help educate. Perhaps you could have the teacher invite you in to talk about it?

Whatever you do, don't let it get to you. You've come way to far now! Get yourself around some positive people, and use positive self-talk!

I know the feeling just as well. My daughter is 7 and in second grade and I use to fear that she would get picked on because of me and I can remember the day it happen. It was soo sad and the comment was something more like you are going to be real fat just like your mom. My poor daughter came home crushed to pieces. My daughter then decided to diet and did not barely eat for months to come. My daughter is finally eating "normal" but still worries about her weight because of mine and because of what the peers will say. I talk with my daughter everyday about the challenges and opinions of others and I hope as she gets older she will gain more self esteem. She is sooo excited for me that I am having this surgery, to see her beam makes me stronger everyday!

What doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

None of us wants our kids to deal with difficult things, especially if we feel that WE are the reason. But, our kids will grow up to be better people because of these tough life lessons. They will be more tolerant and accepting. It's really hard when you are in the middle of this, but maybe this is a bright side?

Hang in there!

Thank you so much Ladies. Just a woman I am sorry your daughter had to go through that. She is going to be soooooooooo proud of you!!!! My son has no idea what was said. I didn't write a note to the teacher because I was having a meeting with her yesterday. I did explain to her what happend and she and I both cried. She is going to have a lesson in class about being sensitive to others feelings and that our words can hurt others. I am so greatful that his teacher is very compassionate.

I am glad to hear you were able to talk with the teacher and she showed compassion as so many people are lacking that in todays world. Good Luck in Journey. You have come a long way!

Oh sweetie don't focus on the mean words that spill from a child's lips. Children are brutal. They can not begin to understand that words are as sharp as any knife.

Focus on your accomplishment and hold your head high. All here are VERY proud of you.

You're doing a great job!
