Alcohol... hooo...
Oh man. I know yesterday was only my four month anniversary... but I decided it probably wouldn't kill me to have a drink or two. Since surgery I have had very small amounts of alcohol on a few different occaisions, but usually I didn't even finish one drink, either because i lost interest or wasn't feeling it. Last night though I was at a party and figured, sure, i'll have a glass of wine. When it was gone I had just one more, and by the time that one was gone I was fairly well into "drunk" and after one glass after that I was COMPLETELY SMASHED. Seriously, I've rarely been as drunk as I was last night, it was terrible. I didn't think it would lower my tolerance THAT much. The worst part was when it came to the point that the room was spinning out of control and all I wanted was to throw up, I couldn't, because nothing was in my stomach. I dry heaved for like an hour, which can't be good for the insides, and I thought I was going to die.
Obviously, i will lay off the alcohol for a while, and pay attention next time to how much I'm drinking since obviously the tolerance level is wayyyy down. Did anyone else find any of this out the hard way? How long did most people wait? I realize I probably sound like an alcoholic, worrying about this, but I'm only 22, I've only technically been allowed to drink for a year, so I mean, this is a part of my life I can't totally ignore.

Moderation, my dear, moderation! I've been sick as a damn dog from just a little. I only have one drink and only every couple of months. I spent three days in bed from a bender which was about 5 glasses of wine!

I don't drink and am the last person to give advice on the subject but be careful. Also make sure you hydrate yourself, plenty of fluids(of course once your hangover is gone). Hope you are feeling better.

Actually, the higher the alcohol content, the less calories is absorbed. Alcohol breaks down into water and carbon dioxide. That's why you don't dump on hard liquor. Wines, beers, malts, and mixed drinks contain more sugar vs. alcohol and can also cause dumping along with the fast buzz. Studies suggest that our BAC levels spike much faster with a lot less alcohol than those without WLS. So, that one drink can put you over the legal limit within minutes of injesting.

See, i was afraid to have hard liquor, because I thought that would be worse on my poor stomach and make me sicker... I didn't really have dumping, per se, but man, i never thought I could be so drunk from three little coffee mugs full of cheap wine.... eesh. I admittedly had a good time up until the near death sickness, and I wasn't even hungover, I slept it off, but the moderation tip shall be taken into consideration in the future
I know very early on I never could've tolerated any alcohol... I took the little shooter of wine they give you in church and i thought I was going to throw the blood of Christ right back up all over the alter, it burned!

booze
I have a friend who had the surgery and did very well, lost 135lbs, looked like a model. She did exactly what the dr. said, no drinks for 1 yr. She likes to drink beer so after that year she started to party. Because of her transformation she is always the life of the party so she feels special, first time in her life. well, she has now gained about 40 lbs and has developed an ulcer due to the constant iritation to her pouch.
It sure has made me stand up and notice. No beer ever again means no beer ever again.
Just a thought
Lori

Whoa Nelly
I had a real bad cold not too long ago and I was feeling miserable so I decided to take some Nyquil before bed......OMG! I passed out mid sentence while talking to my husband. At that point I realized that I'd better be carfeful when attempting alcohol. Haven't tried it yet other than a sip of my husbands now and then (3 mos. post).

I didn't have beer, and I wouldn't. I crave it like crazy, but I refuse to have anything carbonated. I haven't cheated once, I'm pretty proud.
