Default Preaching about Vitamins

I know Bridget says this to you all ....quite frequently and I know some of you personally do not have to take all of the supplements to have good lab results. I just want to say....Take your vitamins and supplements that your doc recommends. Especially....Iron.

I take mine religiously...I have them lined up in rows in my cabinet. One row I take in the morning...I have some ate work that I take at lunch, and then another row for the evening. I had trouble with my levels from day one and finally got on track with my labs. I really have to concentrate on keeping my iron up and so far the iron complex that I take does the trick. I also have trouble keeping my B-1 at a happy medium. B-12....that is another story because I always have too much and figured out that I have to skip a week or two in between the sublingual. Beta Carotene ....I take that sometimes 3 times a day because my body has a hard time absorbing it or assimilating it. I take Lutein as an added supplement....yes it is expensive, but I don't want macrodegeneration when I am older.

Please friends....take your vitamins. I know that Tracie is very good at recommending the perfect supplements that absorb well. For me, it is to purchase the DRY form of these pills.

Take care of yourselves...and take those vitamins...even if you think you feel fine.

Ok, I am done preaching....whew...I feel better.

Well said, Dale. We start feeling so good as we lose the weight, it's easy to get off track with our supplements. It is such an important part of this process. And not taking your supplements can be deadly! For all of you that have just started this journey, if you remember nothing else, remember this.

Hey Karla!! I am glad you posted because you are a long-term post-oper and you and I both have experienced the deadly dangers of being low.

Love and Hugs to you my friend.

Dale,

I only wish I could take my vitamins. I've stopped because... well, you've seen my post at the General Discussion board: "Need help with vitamins." What is Tracie's email address?

Dale,

My surgeon has me on a complex multi-vitamin with iron, a calcium with vitamin D, and B12. They said I don't need iron because I had a hysterectomy. I take Biotin because I chose to. Should I be taking other things?

Marty~

I would just make sure to take what your doctor recommends and have your labs drawn to keep your levels in check. I am not sure about the iron and hysterectomy...ask your doctor next time you see him. I took Biotin, but it made me sick...

Dale, great reminder! I take my iron, zinc, and biotin in the am. Thyroid before work and chewable multi vits after lunch. I do occasionally forget to take the multi and I worry about it. I take calcium at bedtime and I seem to foget it quite often. I hate the way they taste so I got sugar free viactive and still forget often. Tonight I will remember for sure!

While we are on this subject, Will it ever be okay for me to take a regular adult vitamin? I hate the chewables but I can live with them and have been for 9 mo. I just would like to be able to swallow a pill and be done.

I stopped taking the chewables early....I took the adult vitamins I think at 3-4 months out.
