When you can eat salad, it will be so refreshing. I remember I was so afraid to eat it...now I can eat so much of it that sometimes it scares me.
I want you to know that I was not saying you were idiotic at all in my post. I was referring to myself...just wanted to let you know that.
Hang in there in this early stage of eating...it will get much easier with time.

My surgery was mid summer and it was so hot I was always thirsty. I ate watermelon from day 10 it quenched my thirst and just disapears so doesn't fill your pouch too much. I was amazed at how much I could eat at one time. It really helped me, maybe you could try it.

Heather:
I totally understand what you're saying. Don't beat yourself up over it. Like you said, you've learned a good lesson. Believe me, we've ALL learned lessons JUST LIKE THAT. I've eaten food that was approved by my surgeon, but apparently not approved by my POUCH. And, you know what? It hurt like hell! Boy, did I learn a lesson! When they create new pouches for us, we're like brand new babies. We have to learn how to live all over again. You're just an infant, so give yourself a break.
As far as you being dehydrated, only you can decide if you need to see your PCP. There are classic symptoms--extreme thirst, dry mouth, dizziness, decrease in urine output, palpitations, clammy feeling, etc. If you're worried about it, why not place a phone call to your PCP. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Your job is to take care of yourself. No one here thinks you're an idiot. You're one of us. If you're an idiot, then we ALL are idiots.

briefly going back to Chinese food. How do potstickers sit with you all? that'll be my biggest craving once I start eating "normally"

Jared:
I haven't eaten potstickers. I believe it's because I think they would be too gummy and sit in my pouch like lead. However, I HAVE eaten fried won ton (since about a year post-op) and they are delicious. Of course, the Chinese restaurant where I eat the won ton fries them very well...they are not "greasy" at all.
The only reservation I would have with potstickers is the gummy texture of the dough--gotta watch that, especially as a honeymooning post-op.

No, I'm not offended by any comments, but I just wanted to say that I don't vomit all the time. It is a rare occasion when I do, but if my food hurts my pouch so bad that it must be gotten rid of, then I'm going to do it. Yes, I KNOW it's not good to make yourself sick, etc., but I think it's worse to sit there for an hour or two in severe pain. I don't want people to think I'm a closet bulimic, just being honest here about having to make myself sick a handful of times in the last 6 months. There are no underlying issues that I have to deal with, just getting rid of that pain when something hasn't worked. I had food stuck once and it was HORRID! Maybe I am scared about that happening again! Thanks for the responses. Any and all are always appreciated.

Nikki:
I'm glad you responded and elaborated. I totally understand that you don't want food to get stuck. Yikes!
I'm sure, just like me, you've learned what you can and cannot eat successfully most of the time. Of course, there are those rare occasions when you've eaten something dozens of times without a problem and then... voilą!...it makes you really sick. It's one of the more interesting aspects of WLS. LOL
Take good care of yourself and your pouch!
