Mad cow or MY Period???????
Hey guys ..before surgery...I had a few cramps the first day and then nothing the remainder.I could take tylenol and it worked great.
Nowwwww.....My periods are becomming so much more intense..not bleeding more just horriable cramps.I could not stand up yesterday.I am still regular like clock work but the cramps are killing me.I have never been unable to stand up!!!Tylenol is not cutting it.
I will call the Gyn ...is this surgery related? Why would it start now 7 months post -op?Cysts?Tumor?
Any thoughts?
Van

there could be a whole host of reasons. In the context of being overweight and losing...the trend would usually be that your periods would be better and lighter. Some even stop when they lose weight. Do you have any fibroids in your uterus?? They can cause a host of period issues. If you are dehydrated, you can have an increase in uterine cramping with or without fibroids.
BTW...how are you doing after the hurricane. My family is still without power, water, phone in Palm Beach. This one moved fast but the second half (the eyewall on the back half) sent us running for our safe room and I live in a newer home. We lost roof tiles, screen, and our garage door has a booboo, but nothing compared to some others. HOpe you and your family are doing ok.
Your floridian friend,
Dyann

Hey Van,
I know that my doctor told us that when you are low on fluids, it causes more cramping than there normally would be. I have not experienced the cramping that you are talking about, seeing that i have not had my period in two months, due to the fast weight loss. I would definitly call your doctor and make an appointment just to be on the safe side. Good luck!
p.s i have been meaning to ask you and dyann if you were near longboat key? My family has a condo there and we vacation there every winter.

Mine were real bad and heavy after my surgery. Than they tapered off. Now that I have an IUD they are heavy again but hardly any cramps. I think your will probably stabalize soon.

Nessa join the club. I to as well have witnessed the cramps from hell but I think that is because i have yet to get back on birthcontrol. I know it is a no no, I should have been back on them. I am working on it though because I can't handle the cramps from hell. Nessa I hope all works out. Are you using a heating pad? That works so well for me.

get a hold of the doc just to be safe, but when our bodies change so much so quickly, things are bound to change in respect to your period too.

Mine have become heavier, too. I could never figure it out. And I am still like clockwork, too. Hum, wish that went away.

Hormones Running Amok
Van:
I was told that you store estrogen in your fat cells and, when you have rapid weight loss, estrogen is dumped into your system. Therefore, you have a lot more of it to wreak havoc with your cycles. This could be the cause of the hormonal changes you are mentioning. That's another reason they warn us about birth control and fertility. When there's more estrogen around, we become more fertile!
If it gives you any comfort, my period was also more heavy and painful for months after surgery. In fact, I begged my surgeon to allow me to take Ibuprofen for the cramps. He gave me approval for a couple of low doses one or two days each month.
I know that Tylenol doesn't usually help severe menstrual cramps. The cause of severe cramping is due to an enyzme produced in the lining of the uterus. Those of us with abnormally high levels of this enzyme have cramps. Use of the Ibuprofen eliminates the enyzme, thereby eliminating the cramps. Maybe you can get approval from your surgeon (or PCP) to take the Ibuprofen a couple of days each month.
Good luck, sweetie pie. Believe me, I feel your pain. Don't forget about the fertility thing too!

I am post menopause. I have not had a period in several years. At three months out I had a period that lasted three days with lots of cramping.
Our bodies are making all sorts of adjustments right now. Talk to your doctor. Perhaps he can perscribe something strong for the pain.
