Why Am I Eating This Cake????
What the hell am I doing???? I need some will power help. I am at work eating a piece of cake that someone brought in for a going away party. I wasn't worried about eating this then dumping because, damn it, I have been able to eat sugar since day one!! I was so dissapointed because this has always been my weakness and problem. So after surgery I thought I would never have to worry about cheating with sugar because I assumed I would get sick and I would never touch the stuff again. But here we go......I have had some type of sugar every day since coming home. I am scared that I can't stop. I didn't have any will power before the surgery, and without the reprecussions of dumping, I still don't have any will power. Not even a flutter of my pouch!! I have lost 34 pounds, but I am sure it would be more if I could just get a hold of this problem. I didn't have as much to lose as some, so my doctor told me don't expect it just to melt away. I only have 50 more to lose, but at this rate I am doomed from the start. Can someone help me?????

Put the fork down and step away from the cake!
I am sorry you are going through this, I am still Pre Op so don't have any really good advice... except maybe set up time to talk with a therapist about your food issues? OR any chance you can convince your brain that sugar will make you sick even if it doesn't?

Linda,
Just remember that you can't eat as much as you used to before surgery. It's ok to have a LITTLE cake or sugar, but you need protein more. Our surgeon's office has said, Protein 1st, veggies next, fruit after that, and IF there's room, carbs/sugar.
I've hit the weight I was when I got married, and suddenly it seems like I'm eating sugar a lot too. But, I have been talking about it with my therapist, and it really does help. Good luck Linda, I know you want to succeed, and you can if you keep in touch with us, and if there's a support group thru the surgeon's office, go to every one!

I had a piece of cake today too! It was tiramisu cake for a birthday celebration! it was small and extremely delicious. Dont beat yourself up. Only beat yourself up if you are doing it everyday, but heck how far and few are celebrations! Your only human, the skinnies eat cake all the time and so can we! (On occasion)

Linda:
Welcome to the forum. We will certainly try to help you if we can. Believe me, we're not perfect...but we have a lot of experience.
First of all, please don't think you're doomed from the start.
You said, "I have had some type of sugar every day since coming home." It sounds as though you feel like you cannot change. Honestly, you can't change what has happened before this moment. However, you CAN change what happens from here on.
Maybe you're sabotaging yourself because you're thinking in terms of "forever." Try to evaluate your situation in small pieces and then set short goals for yourself. For example, make a personal goal that you will not have any sugar for one day. That doesn't sound nearly as daunting, does it? You can probably live without sugar for one whole day. Most of us can. Once you've reached that goal, then set another goal...maybe live without sugar for a weekend, or two days. Then, as you reach each small goal, give yourself a slightly longer goal.
Try this tactic and see if it works for you. I know that I sometimes find myself overwhelmed if I think of the "big picture." But if I just concentrate on getting through the day, I find it much more reasonable.
Good luck with your journey. I hope we can help you and you can help us!
