Yep. I ate the top off one piece of a works pizza. I took off a few things that looked to hard. I just chew chew chewed it. I wouldn't do it all the time. Kinda high in fat but I don't think it was to bad. I dabed the top with a paper towel. My pouch is really easy on me so far.

Watch out for mozzarella cheese...the warmer and stringier it is, it tends to ball up in the stomach and get stuck. When it's cooler and more solid, then it's easier to chew and swallow.

Marci and Lisa,

Clear liquid is anything you can see through. So, it's very limited in choices. You can have tea, coffee (some docs say it needs to be decaf), Crystal light, jello, sugar free juice type popsicles, low sugar juice, and broth. For my broth stage, I had msio soup, wonton soup juice, I used the little packets of seaonings from ramen soups, french onion soup broth, and minestrone soup juice. When you get to full liquid stage, it's anything without chunks in it; melted smooth peanut butter, cream soups (watch the fat and sugar content), protein shakes, thin pudding, low carb ice cream, sherbert, thin yougurt, and milk.

Oh, BTW....stick to what your doctor suggests as guidelines for advancing the diet. Each doc has thier own thing and I don't think anyone here would want you to go against doctor's orders. Now, if you happen to have a doc that didn't give you any post-op orders, then bug that doc until you get some...otherwise, do the best with what info you got. What we go through initially post-op is no different than for anyone else who've had any type of major surgery. It's just the length of time that's different. I had to go through the same thing after my tummy tuck, just for 3 days though. My friend who had stomach cancer and had half her stomach removed and some of her intestines rerouted, goes through the exact same thing we do diet wise.

I'm with Marie! There is a reason for it! Do whatever the doc says! I can't eat pizza toppings now or they come right back up! be very cautious with your new little pouch!

Thanks for the info. I wonder if there is any connection with people starting solids sooner being able to tolerate more in their pouch...or the other way around ie: waiting longer to take on solids...I will follow what the doc says, but I hope that he would allow soft foods after the first week. Wow you guys are great! Great info Marie, thanks.

I have wondered too. I just know that our doc has done this for 15 years. In the beginning, they were more strict. They're more flexible now. My doc was fine with me progressing ahead of "schedule". It worked for me and I've had no unusual problems. Same with my hubby when he went through this. We're rebels

So basiclly, you have a set of instructions that you tailor to fit your needs and goals. Also, it doesn't hurt to ask your surgeon why he/she chose that particular diet schedule.

Arrow Follow the Rules!

Ditto what Marie said. Above all, follow your surgeon's guidelines! Believe me, if he or she is a decent surgeon, there will be an established set of rules for post-operative eating. Even though Marie tested the waters and was okay, I think it will be a much less rocky path if you follow your surgeon's orders. Just keep in mind that the restricted diet won't last forever. It really does return to a "normal" diet, although most of us pre-op have no clue what a "normal" diet is supposed to be!
