Question Water v. Food

Hmmm I 'searched' for a thread on the approximate time that some feelings of hunger return but couldn't find any.

I am never even remotely interested in food. I force myself to eat a couple bites at breakfast and lunch to help sustain some energy at work, but I would much rather just drink water all day long. It's hot there and I worry about dehydrating coz of the sweating.

I have even taken to drinking water with my lunch which I know is a No NO! but I only have a 20 minute lunch so I don't have the luxury of waiting between the two! Gotta tell ya, the water usually wins out!

Ugh and please don't say to drink those horrid protein drinks. Just the smell of them makes me nauseous. They just are not satisfying on any level to me.

So I guess my question is: When did you all start to feel normal feelings of hunger again? If it's a choice between satisfying my craving for Water or Eating something, which should I do?

Or am I just worrying too much?

I feel that way too. Food kinda makes me sick now. My Dr. told me that I can have 1 - 3 meals a day, but I have to have at least one! So I drink all day long (I have to get 64 oz in) and then have one meal. I only eat a few bites, but I am only 11 days out. I know I will be feeling more up to eating soon! If I am hungery later on in the day I will make my self a little something like cottage cheese and salsa, but I am never hungry.....

Girls, I'm in the same boat with you. I eat because I have to for the most part not because I want to. Here's what I had today-2-32 oz ice teas w/splenda, half of a small salad with steak and gorgonzola on it (maybe 2 cups tops), 4 bites of tomato and lentil soup, 1/2 a 1 oz bag of pretzels, 4 doritos, 2 cups of coffee w/cream and splenda, and about 8 oz iced tea. You may not believe this but this was a good day. Oh, I forgot 4 s/f cough drops! I rarely even feel hungry-when I do 4 or 5 bites and I'm done any more and it comes up.

I'm at the 6 week mark since last Wed and mine seems to be improving this past week. The food is not hitting my pouch as hard and I seem to be eating a little more. Before it would be like 3 bites and I'd be done if it were protein. I sometimes think I feel hunger, but not sure yet if that's what the feeling is. Hey, anyone else still feel compelled to loosen their pants if their pouch feels too full? lol I do it because it helps me psychologically.

Can you add some of those liquid yogurts (check sugar first), yogurt, or maybe milk or sugarfree chocolate milk? That way you can hydrate and get some nutrition. I can relate about the protein supplements....gag!

It's different for everyone. I didn't start getting hungry until about 4 or 5 months, and it's not very strong. Even now, I don't feel hunger the same way. I have many days of no appetite.

I am 20 months out and still have yet to feel a hunger pain or pang I mean the growling of the stomach ordeal that I used to get before WLS. I do know when I need to eat because I get shaky from low blood sugar. My wife can look at me and tell me it's time to eat. It's that evident. In the early stages stay hydrated and try to get protein in that's all any of us can say.

That's why I say I think I feel hunger. It just isn't the same, so I can't be sure. I know my pouch feels something and I know I need to eat, so I think maybe that's me "new" kind of hunger? If so, I am 6 weeks out. I can easily tolerate this hunger feeling if that's what it is.

The food interest will come back...at least it did for me. Food smells so good now. Early pre-op, it made me sick. Now, I love to smell food and enjoy each bite instead of scarfing it all down like I did pre-op.
