Stomach growling?
I'm three months post-op... does anyone else or did anyone else at this point have incredibly annoying stomach growling issues? I will eat my lunch, say, and then in an hour I know I shouldn't be hungry but my stomach is growling at me, telling me that I am. And this isn't indigestion type growling, it's a very persistant hunger type of gnawing, as if I were hungry in any normal sense without surgery, only it's up higher, where my little pouch is but where it doesn't even feel like there should be stomach anymore. I usually ignore it but when I feel hungry like that and I don't do anything to eat, It can make me feel nauseated. I'm getting aggravated because I don't know if it is hunger or if I'm nuts, and if it's not hunger, what the heck is it?!

From what I have read you are supposed do drink water between meals to keep you from getting hungery, but I am pre-op. This is just from what I have read on "pouch rules for dummies". I am sure a post-oper knows a better answer.....

If you check your blood sugars when this is happening I would bet it's dropping. A common side affect of hypoglycemia is feeling hungery. You can usually stop the drop by eating a little protein. If it's below 80 then drink a little orange juice to bring it up quicker. Peanut butter is a good protein for slowly bringin it back to normal and stopping the hunger pains.
Remember, it doesn't have to be low for you to feel the drop. If it's 160 at 30 minutes after eating and drops suddenly to 90 within an hour after eating, you can feel like it is low. If this is happening my diabetes doc says to eat the protein not the orange juice.

I can get that way when I first wake up. I have my protein drink in the morning, then about an hour later, a small snack, usually an egg, slice of meat, or slcie of cheese. Then I'm fine until afternoon. At 3 months, you should start heading towards regular food, if your surgeon allows it. Your stomach has more space now, so it needs more bulk to stay happy. Liquid and soft foods are processed faster, thereby making you hungry sooner.

I had a lot of tummy growling around 2 to 3 mo. I was told it is not your tummy but your intestines digesting food. Mine still grumbles at me occasionally but not as much as it did. If it keeps bothering you ask the doc whats going on.

I had it really bad the first couple of weeks. My doctor says its normal but not everyone experiences it. I've been told the best way to see if its hunger or not is to start drinking something, after drinking for awhile if you are still hungry then you are most likely hungry. She told me sometimes we are just thirsty and we confuse it for hunger. I would drink my protein drink in between meals and they always curb my hunger until my meal time. I don't experience it much anymore I know the difference now between hunger and thirst. HTH Good luck Tina
