Exclamation Getting sick

I'm three weeks post-op and have been feeling good since recently. Fri was my first experience getting sick. My stomach bothered me on & off on Sat and I got sick again on Sun. My question is...is it normal to throw up white stuff? I ate chicken, an hour later I drank some water. Then I threw up, just white stuff. I know this is gross but I thaught I'd ask anyways?

Default Getting sick

My husband ate a couple of different things earlier than he should have and ended up feeling 'blocked up' and throwing up clear/whiteish stuff. Kelly told him it was saliva. His stomach was trying to digest the meat he ate but was having trouble. He never truely vomited (you would know if you did). It took a while for the meat to go through his pouch. He is 8 months out and now & again when he eats meat (usually red meat) this will happen to him.

So, you are not suffering anything too different than others have. Since each one of us is different we cannot tell you exactly what may or may not agree with your pouch. It is pretty much trial and error, with some good coaching from Kelly. czg

Sometimes chicken doesn't agree with me that often. I've hurled the "white stuff" too. Strangly enough, I can do very well with beef, either ground beef or even the mystery beef that's in Lean Cuisine meals (which will feed me about 3 times LOL) I'm 2 months and 1 week out. My doctor told me that sometimes the stomach just gets into a tizzy and you should be kind to it for a day, which mean just the mushy stuff like yogurt. If you vomit ALOT for a day or more, then go to clear liquids for a day or two. Anymore than that, see your doctor. I have a friend who's pouch sealed up and they had to laproscopically open it back up. She couldn't keep anything down. Even hot dogs don't do well. I'm thinking that it's all the preservatives and grease in them. I can do maybe one small bite and that's it. Remember, call your doctor if you think anything is "wrong" or out of the ordinary.. Us newbies are still learning what our belly's will cooperate with.

Good luck!

Angela,

I am 4 1/2 months out and I still do the whole throwing up "froth" thing. It is normal to a point. I was told that my body was not able to digest whatever it was that I was trying to put in it. Sometimes I do it also when I haven't eaten for a while and sometimes it just happens for no reason. Who knows, but the white frothy stuff is normal.. it is just saliva and not a marker of danger. However, if you are running a fever or something do call. It is not unusual to get the flu either.

Don't worry you seem to be doing fine. Just go back to soft foods for a day or so and see how that works out and try again some solids and see how they do. And of course you can always call the office and see what they say.

Let us know how you are doing.. ok

Default I know the feeling

two weeks after the RYN I had to go to the hospital to see if something was wrong, I "frothed" all the time. I think there are just things that dont agree with us now and learning what foods do it does help but there are times that it just happens! Just understand this all takes time, and the office staff rocks so if you ever have a question call. Plus there is a huge amount of knowledge in this group as well. I dont think that there is one thing that someone here hasnt been through or knows someone that has.

Default Angela

I have not had the pleasure of yaking yet and hope I don't get too. I'm kinda A-typical.

But....there have been two times when I thought I might and was wiped out from what I had eaten. The most recent was last night..I had 3/4 of a very well-grilled cheese sandwich. I had a half before about 2 weeks ago no prob, maybe it was thr cheese, but I had to lay on the couch and moaned once or twice..due to the full stomach feeling.

The other time was about 2 1/2 weeks ago when I had a little too much mashed potatoes..that time I actually had to take a nap, or it knocked me out into a hour nap.

Anyways, maybe you just need to take it down a notch for a few days.

Lightbulb Bread.. carbs.. ack!!

Gerry,

I think it may have actually been the bread.. are you 3 months out yet?? I thought I heard that you can have toasted bread earlier but I may be wrong.. I didn't try ANY bread until 3 months out and both times I was down for the count.. I can't do bread.. I don't know what it is but I am thankful because that was my weakness prior to surgery.. so I guess it's all good.. for now.. I hope I keep up the mentality that I can't have bread.. but I know it will be hard when I am further out.. hope you feel better Gerry and don't worry it's easy to hurl now.. for the most part.. lol

Yogurt knocks me out, so does milk. I did throw up a little on milk the first time. Cottage Cheese is usually ok (usually). Solid Cheese is fine. I dump on Salt, Can you believe that crap.... SALT! When I did throw up the fiest time was just clear liquid, The second time was the milk. I have not tried bread yet as I'm a little scared to. I did try a bit of baked potato and had no problems, Also eggs are good.

Default Don't hate me

So far, I have not had any problems with food or drinks. Like I said in a previous post, I'm A-typical.

I have had no problems with milk, salt, new foods, cheese, food items or drinks with low or minimal sugar. I actually accidently had a regular piece of bubble gum (not sugar-free) last week at the Padre game and realized it about 2 hours later.

No problems with yogurt, but i stoped eating it when I got the ok for soft-foods.

No dumping or anything (fingers crossed knocking on wood).

I hope I can continue this journey with these facts in tow.

I have had two experiences with what I consider dumping.... both time were after I did my protien thing. I think it was too much too soon. I tell you I wanted to die. I'm sitting on the pot with the runs and dry heaving into a bowl. I was as white as a ghost and just wanted to curl up and die. I felt like the bottom of a birdcage for the rest of the day. I try to be really careful with the protien drink now.
