Default Finally!!! Good Food!!!!

I wanted to share my great news. Yesterday, one of the girls from my office and I went out to a real restaurant to eat lunch for the first time since RNY. It was wonderful. I had a turkey reuben minus the bread and thousand island dressing. (basically turkey breast w.sauerkraut) I explained that I had gone through gastric bypass and only wanted a small portion. Not only did they accomodate my strange order, they chopped up the turkey breast smaller and only charged me $3.00 for the 'meal'. I ate my lunch and got a go box for the leftovers to eat later. What a wonderful experience. I was starting to feel as if I had landed on an alien planet because of the way I have been eating. RNY does make for some lonely meals. This is only the beginning for me. It feels good to have control of my eating. The girls in my office are glad too, now I can go to lunch when they do. The strangest thing was that I bypassed my normal order in favor of something that gave me more protein, and definately less fat. That was my turning point. It only gets better from here. Just wanted to share.

That is so great you had a great eating out experience. I remember going to Subway to buy a salad and the guy behind the counter was very pleasant. Know how big their salads were I did as you explained and told the guy I had surgery and wouldn't be able to eat all of that salad. He so kindly made it as small as I wanted it and charged me like $2.00 for it. I think as time goes on, alot of restaurants are becoming more aware of "us". More understanding to what having surgery means and accomadating those needs. Thanks for sharing your story.

I go to Quizno's and eat a side salad with 2oz of chicken on it and it's all I need. I eat off of the kids menu if they have healthy choices. Sometimes they ask for my card and sometimes they don't. I also eat the margarita chicken at Chili's I just ask for a to go box so I can save half for the next day.

What is the Card? I have had many people that haven't had GBS that have told me about it, I guess they charge you only a few dollars or kids prices.Am I right?

Your doc should give you two card-1 that says your a GB patient and can only eat a small amount to please allow you to order off the kids menu or get a smaller portion. the other says you've had GB and if you need an EGD to please contact your surgeon before performing any type of scope. I haven't used my card. I usually share with my kids or just get whatever and take the rest home. I tried to use it once at the Olive Garden and they wouldn't let me so now I refuse to go there. There are 2 restaurants here in town that I go to that let me get half orders and charge me half. Nice Mom and Pop places that have watched me shrink. I don't go to any buffets or anything and most places don't care if you share.
