Default Constipation - Help!

Hey Everyone....

I have a wonderful friend that is having a major problem with constipation. She literally is living on laxatives. She takes one in the morning and one at night and flushes with a fleets every 3 days and still feels like she is impacted. She says that she is drinking tons of water. Does anyone else suffer from this and if so what does she need to do?

Default Military Medicine

Danette,

She has called many times to her doctors office and they can never seem to get her in. She is unfortunately at the mercy of the military docs. I told her to champus out and go see a specialist, but who knows if she will actually do it. I was hoping to hear from someone that has the same type of issues that could give her some solutions or at least tell her if she is in any real danger with her colon. I fear for her!

I have to take a stool softner with a mild laxative every day other wise I will not go for weeks at a time, even with taking a full blown laxative. All she can do is try it and see if it works for her.

Default Laxatives

Jeanie,

She already takes 2 laxatives a day, plus a fleets enema once a week. This can't be normal. She is so bloated that she looks a little pregnant. I am thinking she may have some kind of obstruction in her colon or something. I know she really needs to see her doctor, but those military docs keep telling her different things. She has no faith in them. I am worried for her.

Hey sweet girl,
I know I am repeating what others are saying but with that kind of laxative intake and her other sypmtons she REALLY NEEDS TO SEE HER DOCTOR. There is definitely something wrong. Keep her in your prayers, I will too. Love ya!

"Any operation in the abdomen can leave behind scar that can put the patient at risk for later bowel blockage or obstruction. The bowel can twist, obstruct and even perforate leading to serious complications and even death. "

Bariatric Support Center International said this:
"Bowel obstruction: As with any operation, adhesive bowel obstructions may occur as a result of gastric bypass; due to the reconstruction of the small bowel, patients are at an increased risk for internal hernias. This complication may present with classic bowel obstruction symptoms, such as vomiting, decreased bowel activity, and abdominal pain. However, these often present more insidiously even with fairly intermittent symptoms such as cramping and abdominal pain. A high index of suspicion is often needed to make the diagnosis. Contrast x-rays or CT scan may suggest this diagnosis, although surgical exploration based on symptoms is often needed."

Like Bridget said,

forget the appt, go to the e.r.....NOW!! This is definitely not normal, especially with the kind of bloating you're talking about. Let us know how she's doing.
