I had problems until I started eating "Activia Yogart" daily. after a day or two I became regular again. I go everyday now with no pain. It worked for me. I never had a problem pre-op.

I got impacted right after I started taking the calcium. RNY slowed down my system but it got better when I stopped the calcium. I take 3-4 pericolace every 12 hrs. If I seem to go alot I skip doses. My doctors are aware. I had to stop taking calcium and tried all kinds. I've also tried benefiber, I drink plenty of fluids and exercise everyday. I found that I can take 1 citracal softchew 500mg calcium a day and it doens't bother me. My iron was low and was started on Rx iron pills. I was worried that I would really back up but thankfully, the iron gives me diarrhea which now enables me to take calcium. I hope one day I won't have to take laxitives but so far, I need to take it everyday or I back up quick. sue

What about trying "natural" laxatives?

Kiwis are very effective, 1 per day, and it could help. Tell you friend to give it a try.
Laxatives long term are not the best solution.

In any case, the best would also be to discuss it with her physician.
