Default Er Now!

I had a friend who was a quadraplege. She couldn't feel pain like we could, But she kept telling her doctors she hadn't went right. they just kept saying she should use fleets and laxatives. She preforated and died. From the people that were with her it was horrible. Your friend needs to take charge. If she feels something isn't right. It probably isn't. We are not whimpy complainers. Get her to the ER.

For a healthy colon, you shouldn't go more than 2-3 days in between. At 5 months, you should be able to get enough in to stimulate things. If not, you'll need to supplement fiber. If you're doing all that, then you may need a stool softener or laxative. Many foods and medications can bind you up.

Your bowels need water, fiber, and exercise to keep it going smoothly. It only takes 8-24 hours for food to digest and process. We should process faster becasue there's less intestine to move through. Can you imagine the toxins sitting in your bowels for 5 days??? Ick. Also, by the stool staying in the bowels can stretch out the intestines which can cause even slower movements. By the time you experience symptoms of a blockage, it's already a bit late to start to treat and can easily and quickly convert into requiring surgery to remove the blockage.

This complication may present with classic bowel obstruction symptoms, such as vomiting, decreased bowel activity, and abdominal pain. However, these often present more insidiously even with fairly intermittent symptoms such as cramping and abdominal pain. A high index of suspicion is often needed to make the diagnosis. Contrast x-rays or CT scan may suggest this diagnosis, although surgical exploration based on symptoms is often needed."
wow now I might just call my doctor as well. I take 4 laxatives with stool softners every single stinking night. And still it like giving birth to some monster. It is gross and I won't get into details. I can go 10 days without going without the aid of laxatives, I have this problem pre op I would go every Saturday like clockwork. But now who knows when or if I will go. Kristen told me about smooth move tea, I drank it and it did nothing for me. But the 4 lax and stool soft have helped me some what.

Thank you for the information I will talk to Dr. Potts or some other doctor when I see them this week or next.

Most docs recommend Colace. The generic name is docusate. It comes in little capsules. If you can't find them on the shelf, ask the pharmicist. I like using Benefiber each day. It's tasteless, colorless, and dissolves well. Fiber pills don't work as well as the powders. Once you need to use laxatives and such, your body does become dependant. You may find that after some time of using one product, that it may lose it's effectiveness. With all softeners and laxatives, you still need to drink plenty of fluid. All the directions say to take with a full glass of water. Stool softeners work by making the body draw water back into the colon.

I was told no suppositories by my doctor. I was told we should be going at least once a day. I take benefiber chewables and my doctor prescribed colace three times daily if that doesn't work then call him because there is a real problem. I still do milk of mag every know and then if its really bad. But things seem to be working well right now.

I have to take omega 3 capsules every day, because i eat very little fat, and the fat in these capsules makes me go. If i don't have any omega 3, i take a teaspoon of olive oil. Our tummys need a little fat to get everything out! Nuts and almonds are also good for you!
