Default On Week 6, hungry all the time, WTH?

Well i am now 6 weeks out of surgery, and on the soft food diet. I eat things like lasagna, chicken salad, enchilada, eggs, some deli meats, peaches, cheese. However cheese, and deli meats just dont taste the same or even very good. But i dont eat them very much so i dont worry about it too much.
Now i mentioned this before....that my stomach growls, and i talked to Kelly, (nutritionist) and she said that is not a sign of hunger. That our lil tummies just like to make lots of noise at first. Fine, i can deal with that, but I am having down right hunger pains. I will have a pain in my lil tummy then it will growl-move, and the pain will be gone. To me they feel like hunger pains.
I am eating 3 meals a day, until this week. I have started to add snacks. I was told no snacking, to only eat at meal time. But I'm HUNGRY. I am drinking almost constantly INBETWEEN meals, so i dont know what i am doing wrong. I have more hunger pains now then i did before surgery. I hate this. I am afraid of slipping back into old ways of snacking n stuff, or grazing.
Anyone have any tips or tricks?

Well, my doc told me that if I am hungry to eat. he does not want me snacking though. He said if I feel hungry to just have another meal and to make sure its high in protein. Hope that helps

Danette,

We were told it's ok to have up to 5-6 small meals a day. But no snacking. To me, snacking means grazing. My pouch has also made some weird growly noises, but usually I'm not hungry, just gassy. If you can tolerate it, you might try protein drinks when you're feeling really hungry. So far, I've hated every one I've tried.

Are you on an acid blocker? Or perhaps you may have some food intolerances that keep the stomach active.

Nope not on any meds. I dont know what the deal is, I just always feel hungry. I have tried slammin down some water, (which i can and do gulp) that tieds me over for about 3 minutes.
I try to stick to the 3 small meals a day.
Should i add a meal? Instead of a snack? Like crackers w/peanut butter or cheese?

Maybe with the gulping your injesting too much air, and that is what is making your tummy rumble? I get sorta odd vibrations but it is from my intestines not as high up as where my pouch is about 4" lower. Sometimes it feels like it could be a hunger pang but then I feel where it is and I know it is not my pouch. Have you tried any protein bars between meals they hold me over if I know dinner is going to be late here.

Granted... I'm not post-op, but there seems to be lots of things in your diet that might be adding to your problems. Simple carbs are known to kick start your appetite. Things like, breads and pastas. Maybe try to stick with just plain protein and veggies? Veggies can be very filling too. You probally shouldn't snack either. And if you want to snack... stick with protein, it fills up our pouch and takes a while to digest... just a couple thoughts.

okay i have told you this, more than once Im sure. Plan 5 mini meals a day. As long as you PLAN your meals.... not grazing inbetween them.. thats bad eating. Plan 5 mini meals, plan 5 mini meals, plan 5 mini meals. It may be what YOU need. Also stya away from the carbs those are trigger foods.... you will crave more if you consume them. Cut them out, eat 5 meals a day for the next 2 weeks and I bet the farm you feel alot better!
