Question Am I doing this wrong?

I had my Roux-en-Y on September 6th. I went to the dcotor for my two week follow up and boy was I in trouble. He said I am not getting in enough calories, protein or fluids. OK, I'll give him that much. But how in the world do you get it all in???? If I eat more than 1/2 cup I tend to dump no matter what I eat. I am having trouble getting in my liquids too. Everything I drink makes my pouch cramp. Does anyone have any suggestions?

PS-At my 2 week checkup I had already lost 21 lbs. WOW!

slow down! Take small bites and do not put anything on your fork until it is down. Also, chew your food atleast 15 times per bite. Then after a few bites stop for a couple minutes. Try to eat/drink no more than 4 to 6 ounces in an hour. As your tummy gets used to the drinks and food you will be able to increase that amount.

I too was having a problem getting both food or liquid down. I was also down 27lbs at my 2 week appointment. I am now able to drink a lot more, the protein I still struggle with, I am not getting nearly enough, however I feel that if I can at least keep the fluids, the rest will come. I'm sure that it will come for you too. Just keep taking sips all day and eventually you will be able to drink much much more. I can now drink about 10 to 12 ounzes in an hour. It get better, trust me. Good luck

You just have to make yourself nibble and sip every hour.

Default Isopure?

ARE you drinking the Isopure clear protein drinks. I felt better when drinking them. At least you're getting in protien while drinking something that's not to hard on your pouch. Try some, just make sure you just get the kind with protein and not carbs so you don't dump. Available here at Vitamin Shoppe and GNC.

I had my surgery on the same day here in Minnesota and on that fisrt week friday I weighted my self and I had gained 18lbs what a shock that was it was water and it is now gone. I kind of wish I had some of your simptons because nothing has really bothered me at all and that is good and bad. I'm supposed to be on soft pureed foods still but I can eat soda crackers, Ive had a few chips I've lost 15lbs but I am worried because I can eat more that that 1/4 to 1/2 cup
Good luck it sounds like everyone has given you some good advice.
Anyone got any suggestions for me????

I mentioned being able to eat more than recommended in another thread. Was told that during the soft foods phase you will be able to eat more. Once you progress to the more solid foods you will start to have that feeling of fullness sooner. It made sense to me.
