1 Month Out
Hi all,
I am a little over 1 month out and I am feeling great. I have lost a good amount of weight even though I dont see it but others do. my question is when will I be able to go out and have a nice normal dinner with some wine and so forth? When will I be able to have some oysters and still have room for dinner? will that ever happen? I miss my oysters

Ray,
Glad to hear you're doing great. Eventually you'll be able to do that, but it'll be quite a while.

Some day it will happen, just need to be patient. I used to go out to dinner every night almost, or should I say go get some fast food (whether it be McDonalds, Pizza Hut, or even Subway). I am just over 2 months and have not ate out at all, and I must say I don't miss it, but I can definitely understand how you could, I was addicted before surgery. Well, all I can say is be patient, someday it will be possible.
Hey there Nancy (POD mate)

Ray, it's my opinion that you won't be able to eat a meal exactly like you used to ever again. Less of it, yes... and sometimes different things than you had before, but we don't get to dive in and enjoy our food the same way we used to.
The hardest part (I think) about the surgery is the mental adjustment... our new relationship to food. That's the tough part, but we do it. It's important that we start to think of food differently than we used to... so we can make permanent changes.
But, more than likely, you'll be able to do oysters again... someday. Maybe not as many though!
Hang in there... the first couple of months are the toughest!

Who needs normal
I went out and had a 7 course meal for my birthday (6 months post) at a very posh french resturant. One bite of every course over the span of two hours!
Food isn't that important people. It's the converstions and the people I'm with that matters. I went to an all you can eat sushi place at 3 months post op. I visted my mom at 4 weeks out and had a party with her Vietnamese friends. You know how Asians can cook. So what I only had a few sips of soup and half a spring roll. I had so much more fun watching evryone else stuff their faces and then bitch about how much weight they've gained.

Your so right Lea .. when I went out with a couple friends the other day, I had so much time to ask so many questions, that they barely ate anything either from talkin so much!
Maybe I should apologize for that?

you will be able to have oysters again... 3 or 4. Maybe a salad and some chips and salsa.. crunchy and soft foods are what you are able to eat more of. I have had oysters, I was only able and only wanted 2.
Face it, your not going to be normal, and if you thought you would be able to return to your old eating style after surgery-boy were you bamboozeled! You will not be able to eat like the old you ever again.. and if you try to prove me wrong YOU WILL SUCCEED but regain your weight again. So just relax and enjoy what little you are bale to have. The taste and texture of food is so much more important than the quantity of it now.,,, good luck n stuff!

I don't (for the most part) drink when I eat. Maybe a sip of water now and then. I tried to have some blue martini (Bridget, your the martini girl, what are those things?) with some steak and veggies at Applebee's and it was a no go. If I want a cocktail when we are out to eat (which is very rare) then I have a cocktail or wine and no meal. If I'm hungry I eat whatever and skip the drink. I get sick if I drink right after or during a meal unless it is a tiny sip of water or tea. So here in a couple of months have your oysters, then have a small glass of wine a little bit after. It is a big lifestyle change and it is hard at first but you get used to it. It has been worth it to me to have my life back! I don't know how far out you have to be to have oysters but it should be pretty soon for you. I would think they would be a good source of protein.
