Default Woe is Me

My wife wanted to eat out for lunch today so we went to K&W after I convinced her I could not find anything on the chinese buffet at 2 weeks out. K&W is a cafeteria. I chose O'brien potatoes, and an okra/tomato mix.

But the mix was sweetened so I just kinda looked at it and nibbled on the potatoes.

I am feeling a little sorry for myself this afternoon. "What have I done" question slipping into mind.

Will I ever be able to get even close to normal eating again? I mean even if it is good, 1 oz of this and 1 oz of that and yer done....Jesus Christ.

Don't get me wrong, it isn't hunger...just frustrated that I have to scrutinize every bite that goes in...I have been strong but it is starting to get to me. I just hope things will get better once I start adding meats back.

Sorry for dumping on yall. (no pun intended)

Mike

Mike:

I felt the same way the first few weeks. My kids had pizza one day at the house and I felt the same way...what did I do...this sucks etc. Now I have adapted much better. I am only 6-1/2 weeks out and it has already gotten easier. To go out to dinner so early was brave in my opinion. I just went out the first time this week. It seems that once I got off of soft foods this week it made a tremendous difference in how I feel and how I feel about food. What your feeling I believe is normal...it is a beginning of a whole new life for you and I think we morn the loss of what we always knew, however, the better I feel and each day and each week the easier it gets and the happier I am about my decision....I know you will feel better too and the amount of food you eat will begin to seem normal to you. Hang in there....it is worth it.

It gets better at 3-4 months post op when your stomach is healed up and the swelling is gone.

Default I can relate.

Mike,
I was just posting something like this last week. I havent been bold enough to enter a resturant yet, but i so relate to you about seeing what others are eating and can eat. I felt sorry for myself, oh, wooh is me....
I am now 5 weeks out, and on soft foods, and feeling much better. I still have moments where i get the pity myself attitude, but then i remember all the comments i have gotten from co-workers and such, about how i look thinner, and i'm lookin grrrrrreat! Then i feel better.
Pick yourself up and remember why you did this. It'll all be ok.

Sorry to take the hard line here........but. We all had this surgery for a reason, to lose weight and be healthy. WTF are people pushing the boundaries so soon for after surgery?? Good lord, even with our doctor's more lax diet recommendations I didn't try potatos for at least 3-4 months. Good thing too cause I can handle 2 bites before they weigh like lead on my pouch.
If you are this soon post op and alrelady looking for ways to circumvent the system you may be headed for serious trouble down the road. I urge you to read the Pouch rules for Dummies and remember WHY you had this life changing procedure to begin with.

Let the stone throwing begin, as I know it will. Not trying to be sanctimonious or patronizing here, just want people to remember what motivated them to have WLS in the first place.

Mike we all go through this. We are mourin what it is we love so much no longer able to eat like we use to. Its is hard at first. It is a day to day process. I am able to eat more then before. Be greatful you can only eat so much now because in time that will change. There will be a time where you will be able to consume more then you thought you were able to. I hope your days get better.

Default Good news

Mike ,I am six months out and just did the Chinese buffett thing last week(1st time) with my son.I could only eat about four pieces of garlic chicken and a few bites of orange chicken.

I went to lunch with my DM today and had Lasanga sp?...not much but I am finally able to join the real world...its all about portions.

I feel your pain Man...they are all correct when they say it gets better with time.

Best wishes~ Van

Also remember....the starch, calories, carbs in those potatoes. You don't want to make that a habit....you want to learn to LIKE healthy food. Not eat a little BAD food and get mad that you can only have a bite or two. Backwards thinking.

Honestly, I have not tried to circumvent. Mashed and Baked potatoes are on my list of things I am allowed to eat in the soft foods stage. Obrien potatoes are nothing more than baked potatoes really...with a little onion for flavor. I really am trying to stick to the right stuff, did not think I was straying.

Tonight for dinner I had about 1.5 ounce of refried beans with a tiny little bit of shredded Mozz. And several sticks of canned Asparagus. So I am trying folks.

Thank you for all the encouragement and comments. This place helps.

Mike

You, sweet man, are in mourning. You are having to mourn the lost of a very best friend to you for years. It was always there for you before, and now it's like it's been put in prison, and you can only visit with it briefly. A food conjugal visit! You are bound to miss the glorious relationship you shared. But like all mourning periods, it will get better, and you won't miss it quite so much. Hang in there!
