How long before I might feel normal again?
Hi All!
I am almost 8 weeks out and I am still battling stomach pains(most days), trying to get my bowels regular, and fatigue plus some depression that I don't think I would have if it wasn't from the above. I want to work out but everytime I get past 10 or 15 minutes on the treadmill, the muscles around my incision start pulling and hurting. How long did it take everybody else to start REALLY feeling good. I am getting better everyday, but on the bad days, I really get upset. I am wondering if I might have the beginnings of an ulcer and this would explain the stomach pain. I have nausea, lots of belching and by the time this starts to resolve, my stomach feels bruised as though it just went through a battle. Not to mention on am on a 4 week platau, is that normal? Anybody else had an ulcer that would mind sharing some of your symptoms? Thanks in advance for your responses, it's nice to hear from others.

Try not to overdo it on the treadmill if you have pain. Be extra careful and make sure you talk to your doctor. I still have to take an acid blocker, so my tummy feels better.

Check it Out
Teresa:
Ditto what Marie said. Check it out with your surgeon to make sure you don't have an ulcer and you are taking an acid blocker.

I had ulcers quite a while ago, unrelated to WLS-due to arthritis meds. My main first symptom was nausea, and when I ate or drank anything it caused stomach burning and pain. I began to get dehydrated, but was caught just in time. By the time they actually diagnosed me via endoscopy I already had scar tissue formed in my stomach, indicating the condition had been ongoing for quite a while. Get it checked out. Don't forget tho, you had an open surgery, so some of what you feel is likely to be incisional pain, and not the new stomach acting up.

Call your doc! I'm 7 mo out and somedays I still feel kind of crummy, but no where near like I felt from day one to about 4 mo out. It should start getting a little easier everyday. Healing thoughts coming your way!

Are you on an acid reducer? I'm on Prevacid solutabs for the prevention of excess stomach acid. My doc keeps me on that because I had serious GERD prior to wls.
I'm three and a half months out right now and doing just fine. At eight weeks, I was still dealing with constipation issues. About the fourth day without a BM, my stomach would start hurting. So that could be one cause..... Another cause could be stomach acid... you can have pain from that long before an ulcer develops - that's why it's important to tell your doc about this. It is so much easier to deal with before it gets that bad.
I also starting camping around 8 weeks out. I couldn't swim because of the pulling on my incision until I hit three months. Strange thing about the treadmill: I noticed that when I tried to use my treadmill (in the airconditioning of my home) I felt that "pulling"...but if I walked down the street, I didn't. So, I just walked in my neighborhood. Now I can walk on the treadmill no problems and even do some light weight training at the gym. I tried riding the stationary bike and that really bothered me....but I think that's more from the size of my tush!
Hope some of this helps!
Pam

Van,
What is hell week? Bless your heart, what kind of problems did you have? Have you recovered now? BTW, I am taking protonix and I think that seems to be helping, but not all of the symptoms are gone yet....I am not usually one to want time to fly by, but I do for the next few months so I can get back to normal living..
Thanks All!!

Teresa~
protinics is the best from what i have heard.Hell week is the week after your surgery....
I had two GI bleeds(2 units of blood) ...ulcers,strictures(4) ,on soups for about 12 weeks, and a real BAD attitude
BUT......I am here and that stuff can happen with any major surgery.
Good Attitude in Florida~
