suggestions on hair loss
My doc gave me a few suggestions on stopping the hair loss and growing new hair. Zinc and biotin supplements and nioxin shampoo. He swears they work. I have started on the supplements and will let you all know if they work. I had my hair cut Friday and discussed the nioxin with my hairdresser. She suggested I start it at my next appt in 6 weeks if the vitamins aren't helping. She said she isn't sure how an external product could help an internal problem. She also says she has clients who swear by it. ANyway, you can't have any problems from excess zinc or biotin that I know of and the doc said it was fine for me to take. Hopefully, this will be the magic bullet to stop the hair loss.

I tried Biotin and it made me soooo nauseous, so I had to stop. I decided to just lose my hair. It re-grew and now is coming in curly.

Amber I am taking Biotin 1500mg. I must say it must be working because my hair breaks off but it isn't falling out like I thought it would be. Thank the Lawd because it took me a long time to get it this long. Like Dale said though it makes me nausea so there is a certain time of the day I take it to prevent me from feeling sick. Its worth it though. My hair looks like I have been eating doggy food . Its all shiny and wavy. Everything works differently for everyone. Try them out and see which one works good for you.

I have been taking biotin and zinc since I had the surgery. I do shed some hair but no more then the 100 we loose a day. I am hoping it does not get any worse.

I've been taking Biotin faithfully since day one (surgery) and still have what I think is a lot of hair loss. Hopefully, it will ease up soon as I'm coming up on the six-month mark. Luckily, the Biotin doesn't make me sick to my tummy... I take it right before bed, if that helps anyone.

I am 9 weeks post op and fearing losing my hair. Years ago after trying some phen fen I developed a few bald spots and I was devistated when a co worker noticed one as she was looking over my shoulder at my computer. I don't want that to happen again, but need some advice.
Besides the hair loss, are there other symptoms of pending hair loss? Does the scalp get itchy? I have a few itchy spots and it could just be the weather or my shampoo, but freaking that it may be pending hair loss.
Any insights will be helpful! thanks

Although I take Biotin faithfully and make sure I get all my protein in, I PERSONALLY believe there's not much you can really do to prevent hair loss. I say this knowing it can be totally devistating to lose your hair! We, as women, feel like our hair is our crowning glory... short, long, medium, it doesn't matter... it's OURS and we are proud of it. When we start losing it, it's very hard. However, someone's advice on this board really helped me...
It's temporary and will grow back... and it's a small price to pay for a lifetime of improved health!
I keep reminding myself of that every time I pull out a wad of hair during my morning shower... and pick it off my clothes every day... and clean my brush every other day.
Just be ready for it when it happens and hang in there!!

So far no trouble with nausea. I have been taking it at bedtime so maybe that helps. I'm not as upset about it as I was but it is also a bigger deal to me than it should be I guess. I firgure these supplements are cheap and I've got nothing to lose, well more hair I guess!

I take BIOTIN and I think it "HELPS". I still have hair loss, but I think it was coming out patchy before. With the BIOTIN, it sems to be more shedding rather than clumpy???
Know what I mean?
Anyway, it does not make me sick and at 8 months almost 9 months actually, I think it has finally slowed down. whew!!!
It isn't too bad though. Small price to pay for a life time of healthy body!!

I'm so excited! My hair has stopped falling out! YIPEEEEE!!!!! I don't know if I'm past this phase or if the biotin and zinc really help. I have a bunch of little stubbles all over my head where it's starting to grow back! I hope it grows back thicker than it was before!
