I am one month out tomorrow, and my depression over what I can't eat feels like it's finally subsiding. I am starting to crave different foods now. I go to the grocery store and find myself looking at labels and cruizing the produce section instead of the snack isle. Finding things that are lower in sugar or even better ~ SUGAR FREE!

I stand there and look at all the choices and wonder why I didn't do all that along time ago. There are so many choices of sugar free/lower sugar items that are soooo tasty! Why didn't I notice them before?

You will find that once your eating more of a variety of foods, it's not so bad! I went shopping with my skinny sister the other day and while I was buying a cantelope & bananas.. she bought a huge Hershey bar and it didnt even bother me! *Faints* 3 Weeks ago I woulda been dying for just a sniff of it.

Hang in there, I know we all say it'll get better, but I promise we are not just blowing smoke!

The first week after my surgery, crystal lite and anything with artificial sweetner would make me have diarhea. Hopefully it will change it did for me. Major surgery can also make you to be a little depressed, the anesthesia etc, just hang in there and everything will get better before you know it.

I am almost 6 weeks post-op and I am finally feeling better. I had asked just last week about the diarrhea as it was still so bad even with eating soft foods. It will pass as you begin to eat more foods with substance. Your on liquids so that is what will come out. I did eat bananas and later tried some rice when I was allowed and that helped a lot. I also cried my first week out...I was pissed I could not eat pizza when my kids were, where to go if I was not going out to dinner, I felt my husband (even though very supportative) was not enjoying himself as we were not going out to resturants etc. Yes, it is a part of life you know but there is a better and more exciting life in front of you. You will find other things to do and the cravings have lessened a lot now the past two weeks. Hang in there....you will find it is all worth it.

Thumbs up

I want to thank everyone for your support, you guys are wonderful!
I am now 2 weeks out and well feeling better than the last time I wrote. It has been hard, yes but I am so excited to tell you that the swelling in my legs and ankles is gone! I went to a post op appt with the surgeon a few days ago and found out I had already lost 18 pounds! I went from 272 to 254 I was really excited.
On another note, Yesterday I was so thirsty that I downed a 15.2oz of sugar free apple juice in less than 10min.... when I realized it I was so scared that something would happen to me but to my surprize, nothing no dumping(never had so far), no nausea nothing just a feeling of being bloated, has this ever happened to anyone?

Glad you are doing well.

I would not worry about the bloated feeling, after all you did drink 15 ounces. It should pass quickly.

Lucky for you that you can drink so well. I reccommend you sip from now on though. After a while yoiu sipping will acumalate and be refreshing and hydrating with out bloat.

The first couple weeks are the hardest, glad you are pass them.

Keep in touch

You WILL be able to eat and enjoy social eating again. You will just be satisfied more easily (the key workd here IS SATISFIED). I am 5 months out and amazed and astounded how normal my eating has begun. I just get full faster which I knew I would, however, I have never been satisfied before this surgery and I am now. I was sad about future Thanksgivings and pizza parties etc.... but guess what, I can eat turkey and stuffing and gravy, I can eat a piece of pizza (well, almost a whole piece) but at this point I am so grateful that I have not lost the pleasure of eating the things I like, I just like less of them.
